The position will be based mainly out of the Geoffrey & Robyn Sperber Health Sciences Library. Shifts at other library locations are also a possibility, including but not limited to the Cameron Science & Engineering Library and the Rutherford Humanities and Social Sciences Library. Weekend and evening work will be required.The Library offers an integrated service desk model for providing reference and information services, circulation/borrower services, and technology support services. The Library operates in a highly electronic environment with collections and services in support of the research, teaching and information needs of students, faculty and staff.Reporting to the Head, Information Services & User Engagement (IS-UE), the Information Services Specialist is part of a dynamic and collaborative IS-UE team, whose mission is to find solutions for library users, while contributing to the provision of welcoming services.Information Services Specialists work to collaborate effectively with people of diverse cultures, and with varying levels of comfort with the academic setting.Duties

  • Provides reference and information services to students, faculty and the general public, at a service point, either in person or using our virtual reference platform (real time chat and email ticketing system), or by phone.
  • Provides circulation/borrower services, including charging out and renewal of library materials, and uses the online circulation module of the integrated library system to provide client account services; interprets and applies policies accurately and consistently; contributes to the updating and writing of policies and procedures
  • Assists users in discovery: finds information using current and emerging library discovery systems and print research tools; provides point-of-need instruction.
  • Assist library users with a wide range of e-book and database platforms, and accurately advises library users on access privileges
  • Assists clients with technology-related questions and problems, including troubleshooting hardware/software problems and initiating a course of action to provide solutions.
  • Applies policies and follows procedures that contribute to the security and safety of the library facility; opens/closes the Library.
  • Provides support for digital scholarship services which includes managing 3D printer queues and performing printer basic maintenance as well as providing technical guidance on a variety of equipment for services such as but not limited to the 3D printing, VR lab and audio/visual recording lab.
  • Other responsibilities may include: online learning objects development; collections support; Library committee work, various project work, training and administration support; facilities responsibilities; and engagement/outreach.
Qualifications
  • Two years post-secondary education required; a Library and Information Technology Diploma is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of two years experience in providing information services in a library required.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for working in an electronic environment required
  • Familiarity with library discovery services/integrated library systems such as EBSCO Discovery, SirsiDynix Symphony (Workflows), and other discipline-related electronic and print resources is desirable.
