Job Description

As an Information & Privacy Advisor, you will be responsible for managing Health Information Act (HIA) and Access to Information Act (ATIA) requests to ensure transparency and compliance; leading investigations and mitigation strategies to protect patient, client, and staff information; delivering access, privacy and health information education to staff, physicians, volunteers, and partners; and conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and audits to maintain strong privacy safeguards. You will prepare mandatory reports for the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC), and applicable Ministries; provide expert advice on access, privacy and health information legislation and corporate policy; develop resources, training, and best practice guidelines; guide teams through Privacy Impact Assessments and risk evaluations; collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on joint privacy initiatives; manage formal access to information requests with precision and compliance; carry out other duties as may be required within the scope of the position. This is a non-unionized position.

Required Qualifications:

Degree or diploma in information management, IT, or related field. Minimum 3 years' experience in privacy or information security within healthcare.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Advanced knowledge of Alberta's HIA, ATIA, and POPA legislation. Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and manage complex, unpredictable situations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Privacy and security incidents require rapid, thoughtful responses. You must apply critical thinking and legislative knowledge to guide staff and develop effective action plans. This role demands flexibility, composure under pressure, and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines. Travel between sites is required; a valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recognized privacy certification or information governance certification (e.g., CIPP/C, CIPM). Expertise in PIAs and risk management frameworks. Experience in complex healthcare or public sector environments. Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
