In accordance with the , this position has a comprehensive and an annual salary range of $64,206 to $107,006.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.
Reporting to the Director, Global Engagement, the Information Management & Competitive Intelligence Officer (IMCIO) leads the design, implementation, and day to day execution of the Office of the Vice President (International & Enterprise) (VPIE)'s enterprise information ecosystem. This includes serving as the functional owner of a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform and the external facing industry engagement web portal that integrates with it. The role ensures data are accurate, current, secure, and accessible; establishes information governance and standards; and translates institutional and market intelligence into clear insights and reports that inform high stakes decisions on partnerships, international engagement, and revenue generating initiatives across the University. The IMCIO serves as the primary liaison to Information Services & Technology (IST) for all VPIE CRM and data integration matters.
Responsibilities:
CRM Strategy, Design & Governance

  • Serve as functional owner/product owner for the VPIE CRM; define requirements, roadmap, and success measures.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve CRM architecture, objects, fields, workflows, integrations, and automations in collaboration with IST and campus stakeholders as needed.
  • Establish and steward data standards, data quality controls, access/permission models, and retention practices; monitor and remediate data integrity issues.
  • Lead CRM governance (policies, procedures, training) and change-management for users across multiple portfolios; develop user guides and deliver training.
  • Develop role-based dashboards as needed and operational/executive reports; ensure consistency and comparability of metrics over time.
Web Portal Ownership & Integration
  • Own the external industry engagement portal as the single digital entry point for partners; ensure seamless integration with the CRM.
  • Design intake, triage, and routing workflows that direct inquiries to the correct campus unit; track service-level commitments and follow-ups.
  • Continuously improve usability, accessibility, and content in partnership with communications/web teams; coordinate enhancements and releases.
  • Monitor portal performance (conversion, routing accuracy, response times) and drive improvements to support institutional objectives.
Competitive Intelligence & Decision Support
  • Synthesize internal CRM/portal data with external sources (sector reports, rankings, funding data, industry signals) to produce actionable insights.
  • Prepare intelligence briefs and executive-ready materials for the VPIE and AVPs for Enterprise & Global Partnerships and Innovation & Knowledge Mobilization, Deans, and senior leadership to guide missions, meetings, and partnership negotiations.
  • Develop analyses that illuminate opportunities, risks, and competitive positioning in target regions/sectors; recommend data-informed courses of action.
  • Maintain a secure repository of briefing materials and historical engagement context to enable organizational learning.
Data Privacy, Security & Compliance
  • Ensure information management practices comply with University policies, FOIP/privacy obligations, and security best practices.
  • Coordinate with IST, Information & Privacy Office, and other legal/risk units to assess risks, manage permissions, and respond to incidents.
  • Lead periodic audits of data quality, access, and usage; implement corrective actions and continuous-improvement plans.
Stakeholder Engagement & Support
  • Act as primary point of contact with IST for CRM/platform integrations, enhancements, and issue resolution; manage vendor relationships as applicable.
  • Liaise with relevant campus stakeholders to align data structures and reporting standards.
  • Provide coaching and day-to-day support to VPIE and campus users; steward a community of practice for CRM and portal usage.
Administration & Other Duties
  • Maintain documentation (data dictionaries, process maps, standard operating procedures) and ensure version control.
  • Support procurement/contract processes for relevant platforms; track licensing and costs in collaboration with budget owners.
  • Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in information management, business intelligence and analytics, computer information systems, or a related field (equivalencies considered).
  • Demonstrated experience as a functional owner/administrator for a CRM platform (e.g., Salesforce, Slate, Microsoft Dynamics) including configuration and integrations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT or other generative AI platforms for research, writing, data analysis and synthesis, and workflow optimization to enhance productivity and communications.
  • Expertise in information governance, data quality, and reporting; strong proficiency with Excel and at least one business intelligence tool (e.g., Tableau or Qlik).
  • Exceptional analytical writing and presentation skills; ability to translate complex data into clear insights for senior decision-makers.
  • Proven project management and change-management capabilities in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive information; meticulous attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in higher education, international engagement, business development, or industry partnership contexts.
  • Familiarity with University of Alberta systems, policies, and data environments.
  • Experience designing and operating external-facing portals integrated with CRMs.
  • Facility with open-source intelligence methods and tools.
