Your Opportunity:The Infection Prevention and Control Professional (ICP) is a patient safety expert with a breadth and depth of expertise in their own field and in the principles of infection prevention and control. The ICP requires knowledge of other disciplines in order to effectively apply IPC principles in different circumstances across all health care environments. The ICP leads the planning, development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of system wide improvements in infection prevention and serves as a role model to promote the goals of the IPC program within the larger context of the vision and mission of AHS. The ICP facilitates change through interpretation and application of standards and provides best practice recommendations across the spectrum of the organization with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes, and preventing hospital acquired and healthcare associated infections (HAIs).Description:As an Infection Prevention and Control Professional (ICP), you will be a patient safety expert who leads the planning, development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of system wide improvements in infection prevention and serves as a role model to promote the goals of the IPC program within the larger context of the vision and mission of AHS. Required Qualifications:Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or Public Health. Other clinical health-related baccalaureate or graduate degrees may be considered if curriculum content equivalency can be adequately demonstrated. Minimum of three years\' experience in a clinical health care setting, or experience and proficiency in two of the following: 1) patient care practice; 2) microbiology and infectious diseases; or 3) epidemiology and biostatistics. Active or eligible registration with the applicable regulatory college i.e. College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA), etc. Additional Required Qualifications:Must be licensed with a governing body (CARNA, ACMLT) or hold an advanced degree in a health-related field. The entry level ICP needs at least 3 years\' experience in a clinical health care setting, or experience and proficiency in two of the following: Patient care practice. Microbiology and infectious diseases. Epidemiology and biostatistics. It is expected that the ICP will complete additional formal training in Infection Prevention and Control within the first year of practice. Following 2 years of practice, the ICP is expected to obtain and maintain requirements for Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC). Preferred Qualifications:Certification in Infection Control CIC\xc2\xa9 from the Certification Board of Infection Control.
