PURPOSE:

The Industrial Performance Engineer is responsible for initiating and implementing continuous improvement projects in a manufacturing environment. The individual will also be responsible for building reports and dashboards on top of pre-processed data and drawing out insights from it using approved tools such as PowerBI, SQL Server, Access, and Excel. Data analytics should be inclusive of machine processes and product quality which is to be used for problem solving, developing KPI\'s, and improving plant performance.

In the role of Industrial Performance Engineer and when fulfilling Controls Engineering duties, he/she will accomplish Engineering tasks that require technical data gathering and analysis, problem identification, and proposing and developing resolutions. The individual will be able to perform these tasks through team collaboration and using modern technologies and techniques to aid in the problem solving and resolution process. Combining these methodologies (and working with production, maintenance, and engineering) the Controls Engineer will be able to aid with control systems and process improvements.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Industrial Performance Engineer

  • Collect and maintain data regarding key KPIs
  • Highlight gaps ($ value impact) between current performance and targets
  • Assess adequateness of KPIs and assist in developing new ones
  • Launch & drive initiatives to close gaps between current performance and targets
  • Keep track of initiative impact on a monthly basis
Controls Engineer
  • Identify, develop, and improve manufacturing equipment through continuous improvements
  • Develop new methods of machine control to increase production uptime and reduce carbon footprint
  • Use modern technologies, innovations, and problem-solving techniques to aid projects and tasks as agreed upon through team collaboration
  • Assess production deviations and use analytical techniques to propose and implement solutions
  • Work with a dynamically defined team to aid in machine safety projects as required
  • Measure, document all improvements, and follow project regulations and standards
  • Use electrical/control systems and PLC programs to troubleshoot process issues and make modifications as required
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations are enforced and complied with and that precautions are taken in order to prevent potential hazards
  • Keep abreast of technological developments that would improve products, processes and/or procedures
  • Participate in future manufacturing investments
EXPECTED RESULTS:
  • Contribute to P&L improvement
  • Developing and improve manufacturing processes as they apply to the production of wire and cable products ensuring a quality product at a competitive cost
  • Contribution to energy savings and carbon footprint reduction using digital initiatives
  • Plant process efficiency improvements
REQUIRED SKILLS & EDUCATION:
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills are a must
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Impact driven, willingness to make things happen
  • Excellent organizational skills ; prioritize and effectively handle several projects simultaneously
  • Business sense, visionary / out of box thinking
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Knowledgeable of safety standards and regulations
  • Excellent mechanical trouble shooting skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project, Solidworks and AutoCad. Use electrical/control systems and PLC programs to troubleshoot process issues and make modifications as required
  • Experience with 3D printing an asset
  • Analytical and structured: capability to analyze & reconcile high quantity of data with complex files
  • Ability to learn equipment, processes, products and standards
  • Needs to be hands-on
  • Experience with Injection Molding/Extrusion would be beneficial
  • University degree in Mechanical/Electrical or Mechatronics along with 2+ years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Occasional after hours work and calls
