Position Overview

The Indigenous Relations Coordinator is a key contact for Indigenous Community Representatives, Indigenous candidates and Indigenous employees.

District Overview

Kiewit's Western Canada District is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. We are looking for hard working individuals with a passion for construction who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty! Our current opportunities are spread across the entire west coast of Canada.

Location

Western Canada District is headquarted in Burnaby, British Columbia. This position will require travel to project sites in locations throughout BC.

Responsibilities

  • Notifying Indigenous Community Representatives (ICRs) of employment and training opportunities;
  • With the Stakeholder Engagement & Indigenous Relations Lead, completing regular check-ins with MBA Indigenous communities, which may include in-person meetings, phone calls or email (depending on communication preference) for employment and training opportunities;
  • Supporting HR and Craft Recruitment on recruitment initiatives related to Indigenous applicants, by identifying Indigenous applicants for employment via face-to-face meetings, information sessions, job fairs, etc.;
  • Developing newsletters, presentations, and other effective forms of communication;
  • Working with Indigenous Community Representatives (ICRs) to help Close to Qualified Indigenous applicants become qualified;
  • Gathering formal and informal feedback from ICRs and Indigenous employees to support retention efforts;
  • Communicating regularly with KBTP's HR and Recruitment teams;
  • Completing robust Records of Contact, especially regarding issues identification and resolution;
  • Engaging with onsite supervision to maintain regular communication with the KBTP Project team regarding Indigenous employee status, performance and attendance;
  • Championing the Indigenous Mentorship Program;
  • Working with Indigenous communities, ISETs and other Indigenous organizations to identify and leverage other training opportunities;
  • Identifying onsite training opportunities (e.g., apprenticeship programs) and supporting Indigenous employees to enhance retention on the Project;
  • Gathering feedback from training session attendees;
  • Informing Indigenous employees, prior to start date, about their role and expectations on site to improve success and retention;
  • Supporting Indigenous employees requesting unpaid time off for traditional practices, which may include funerals, fishing, hunting, cultural ceremonies, etc.; and
  • Developing and facilitating close to qualified training, including but not limited to researching training programs, booking venues and catering and recruiting and registering training candidates.
