Your Opportunity:
Based out of our Melcor Centre, Lethbridge office, the Indigenous Pediatric Allied Health Liason position is part of the dynamic Audiology and Children's Allied Health program. Our multidisciplinary team consists of Occupational Therapy, Audiology, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology and Therapy Assistants who provide service to a pediatric population birth to 18 years. Our pediatric program follows the AHS Rehabilitation Model of Care with a primary focus on birth to 6 years of age, with limited services for those aged 6 thru 18. This Indigenous Pediatric Allied Health Liaison has 3 main initiatives: Promote Cultural Safety and Client Engagement ensuring the health care provided by Children's Allied Health is culturally safe and meets the specific needs of indigenous families and communities. Enhance Interagency Collaboration with Children's Allied Health playing a vital role in bridging the gap between rehabilitation care and community support for families navigating their child's health journey ensuring families can easily connect with essential services and resources. This role also involves networking and forging strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders, enhancing a support system that thrives on collaboration. Support cultural education and education for the Children's Allied Health Team. The successful incumbent will show proficiency in the following areas: Interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team. You must be self-directed and able to work independently, demonstrate excellent time management and prioritization skills. Effective communication and family centered focus is a necessity for this role.
Description:
As an Aboriginal Hospital Representative I, you will provide a range of support services to First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) clients and their families within AHS facilities. Your knowledge and respect for the cultural perspectives, beliefs and health practices within the FNMI community are essential in this role to supplement and enhance the care provided by other healthcare professionals. As an Aboriginal Hospital Representative I, you are not a primary care provider, but you will provide input, recommendations, support and guidance to the discharge planning team. You will also provide cultural consultation and recommendations to discharge planning teams from other urban acute care and rural sites as required.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma or certificate from an accredited health related program in a regulated profession (e.g., Social Work, Licensed Practical Nurse).

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Child Development and a strong commitment to Family Centered Care. Knowledge of how to respond to the diverse cultural needs of a wide variety of indigenous peoples. A high degree of cultural competence as it relates to working with Indigenous people. Proven oral and written communication skills to facilitate working cooperatively and effectively with health care team members, community agencies, children, families/caregivers. Connect Care experience is an asset.
