As an Indigenous Patient Experience Leader with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Indigenous Patient Navigators (IPN) Program and act as an expert lead resource to improve Indigenous patient experience as a priority and responsibility shared by everyone at VCH.
  • Continuously partner with Indigenous patients and their supporters, providers and staff on quality and safety and improvements, which is inherent to all aspects of this position.
  • Be under the direction of the Manager for Indigenous Patient Experience to work collaboratively to plan and implement program strategies, ensuring active Indigenous patient and family participation in feedback, care initiatives, service planning, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Have opportunity for innovation, build capacity for partnerships and coordinate existing and new Indigenous patient and family feedback on systems, services, supports and other planning activities.
  • Collaborate on IPN education projects, initiatives, and events involving Indigenous patient and family engagement and care experiences.

Education & Experience
  • Three (3) to five (5) years recent, related experience working with Elders, Indigenous community health and program development or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Recent experience leading or coordinating a team in a health delivery environment. Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Health, Social Sciences, or related field is preferred.
  • Pursuant to Section 41 of the British Columbia Human Rights Code, preference will be given to candidates who identify as Indigenous including First Nations, M\xef\xbf\xbdtis or Inuit.

Knowledge & Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to build cooperative and consultative partnerships with Indigenous patients, families and partners.
  • Ability to work in partnership with Indigenous organizations and communities.
  • Demonstrated understanding, knowledge and skill of Indigenous Cultural Safety and humility.
  • Demonstrated understanding of provincial and federal guiding principles and documents, for example In Plain Sight report, and calls to action to eliminate systemic racism in the health care sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply strength-based and Trauma-Informed Principles to practice, has completed trauma informed education preferred.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and support teams, inspiring a shared vision that aligns with organization goals, objectives, and strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work professionally, diplomatically, and persuasively to foster and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Strong verbal, written, and relational communication skills, in a team setting and with a variety of Indigenous patients, families, healthcare providers and other stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Demonstrated ability to arrange and coordinate surveys, meetings, focus groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information and maintain a balanced perspective.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, including developing clear written reports and making group presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
