POSITION SUMMARY:

As an Indigenous Museum Educator, you will deliver onsite and online educational programs, using Indigenous knowledge and perspectives. You\'ll work closely with a team of Museum Educators, administrators, and Digital Learning staff to create a community of inquiry and practice. Your role will involve engaging students and teachers in museum learning through tours, workshops, and curriculum support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate engaging educational experiences in galleries and hands-on labs.
  • Develop and deliver educational and outreach programs based on Indigenous lived experiences, knowledge, and perspectives.
  • Utilize modern and Indigenous teaching strategies to meet learners\' needs and adapt programs accordingly.
  • Create and deliver distance learning experiences for students and teachers using digital tools.
  • Contribute to ROM online learning portals by ensuring accurate and relevant cultural content.
  • Collaborate with ROM staff and external stakeholders to develop cultural aspects of online portals.
  • Support and deliver workshops related to Indigenous education and digital learning.
  • Collaborate with the School Engagement team to develop new programs based on Indigenous knowledge and collections.
  • Participate in training sessions and continuously improve teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop effective learning techniques for onsite and online experiences.
  • Assist with lab and gallery operations, including setting up and taking down objects and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of a 4-year Indigenous Studies or Education degree or equivalent experience and knowledge.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in formal or informal educational settings.
  • Experience delivering online educational programs and proficiency in standard computer applications.
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Curriculum and understanding Indigenous perspectives on learning.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to conduct pedagogical and museum content research.
  • Proficiency in operating digital, audio, and visual equipment/tools.
  • First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis, or Inuit ancestry is considered a significant asset.
  • Fluency in French or Indigenous languages is considered an asset.
Salary and Terms of Employment

START DATE: ASAP

OPEN DATE: July 10, 2023

CLOSE DATE: July 24, 2023

EMPLOYEE GROUP: OPSEU Part-time Local 543

SALARY/HOURLY RATE: $29.54 per hour

SCHEDULE: up to 24 hours

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 420 hours or six (6) months (whichever comes first)
