Position Summary:
The Indigenous Mentor & Advisor provides activities, support, and advocacy for clients in any of enCompass' programs. The goal is to assist clients throughout their journey to ensure they've received the information, skills, knowledge and ability to familiarize themselves with available resources and supports that they can continue to access to further support independence. The Indigenous Mentor & Advisor will establish working relationships with clients and Program staff that allow for identification of healing, spiritual, cultural and other appropriate Indigenous resources. Hours and days are flexible to allow for the best time to make client contact. Approximately two thirds of weekly time is spent on direct client support.
The Indigenous Mentor & Advisor also works with agency leadership and the Truth and Reconciliation Committee to raise awareness within enCompass to the Calls to Action in the National Truth and Reconciliation Report, including "incorporating into the fabric of the agency in a meaningful way". The Indigenous Mentor & Advisor will work to engage staff and clients, to incorporate a meaningful Treaty Land Acknowledgement, ensure there is Indigenous imagery in all programs, and host an annual event during National Indigenous History Month. Approximately one third of weekly time is spent on agency and administrative support.
Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively to meet the Truth and Reconciliation Committee's annual goals as approved by the Strategic Leadership Team
Work with the Truth and Reconciliation Committee and agency staff to identify ways to ensure space is welcoming and inviting for staff and clients for those identifying as Indigenous
Provide recommendations for the incorporation of an Indigenous lens and traditional practices into agency and program policies and practices
Respond to emails and other requests for information in a timely fashion
Maintain accurate and up to date documentation as directed
Facilitate onsite weekly program activities for agency clients
Provide information about opportunities for client participation in community cultural events and activities
Obtain and maintain positive working relationships with external agencies
Collaborate with external agencies to share best practices
Stay updated on community Indigenous events and activities, sharing this information with clients and staff
Be a positive ambassador for the agency
Participate in agency, department, and division staff meetings
Participate in and be a positive contributing member of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee
Qualifications / Skills:
Grounded in Indigenous culture, traditions and history
Previous front line experience working with urban Indigenous people assisting them with skills development for successful urban living
Understanding and experience working with disadvantaged and oppressed populations dealing with life challenges including: poverty, unemployment, lack of education, addictions, family violence, mental health, and racism
Previous experience delivering training and mentorship within main stream organizations
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a team environment
Able to work independently but follow direction
Proven ability for written and verbal communication, including conflict resolution skills
Ability to engage the Indigenous community
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with staff and build bridges with community
Conditions of Employment:
The schedule for this position is primarily Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, with some flexibility to allow time to connect with clients in the evenings and weekends. This role operates out of different physical locations within enCompass. The anticipated start date is September 8th, 2025
Requirements:
Valid First Aid certification (as required)
Criminal Record Check, Enhanced Reliability Screening and Child Intervention check - A criminal record does not automatically disqualify candidates; each application is evaluated individually.
Reliable vehicle with a valid Class 5 driver's license and $2 million liability coverage

The salary range for this position is $52,689.00 to $81,159.00 annually.
