The Indigenous Liaison Officer will serve as a bridge between Garden River First Nation and neighbouring communities, ensuring respectful communication, collaboration, and inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in all programs, projects, and initiatives. Specifically, the Indigenous Liaison Officer will be the bridge between Garden River First Nation and GIP throughout the duration of the Highway 17A Resurfacing Project. This role focuses on relationship-building, community engagement, and advancing reconciliation and cultural awareness within the organization.

What you will do:



o Advising employers on indigenous cultures and issues.

o Build and maintain respectful, trust-based relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and leadership.

o Facilitate ongoing communication and collaboration between the organization and Indigenous partners.

o Support the integration of Indigenous knowledge, values, and protocols into projects, policies, and planning processes.

o Coordinate community consultations, meetings, and cultural awareness activities or programs for Indigenous individuals in areas like education, healthcare, or corrections.

o Provide guidance and advice on culturally appropriate engagement practices.

o Promote awareness and understanding of the history, culture, and rights of Indigenous Peoples among staff and stakeholders.

o Support Indigenous employment, training, and partnership opportunities where applicable.

o Prepare reports, presentations, and communications related to Indigenous engagement.

What you can bring to the role:



o University degree in Indigenous Studies, Community Development, Communications, or a related field (Social Science, Health)

o Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with Indigenous communities and organizations.

o Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, governance, and protocols.

o Knowledge of Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and UNDRIP principles.

o Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.03-$34.50 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
