The Indigenous Governance Program at Yukon University realizes that the traditional approaches to university studies does not suit the academic and professional commitments that drove the creation of this unique degree offering. From the outset, Yukon University recognized the need to utilize, with care and respect, the knowledge and experience of northern Indigenous peoples and to build engagement with Indigenous knowledge holders into the experience of students in the program.
Yukon University is looking to hire, on an annual basis, at least one respected and recognized First Nations knowledge keeper holder to assist with the delivery of the Indigenous Governance Program. Work assignments will depend on the skills, interests and experience of the individuals selected for the post. Their teaching and administrative responsibilities will be developed in consultation with the Chair of the Indigenous Governance Program.
The Knowledge Holder in Indigenous Governance will be appointed as a faculty member at Yukon University, with a competitive salary and benefits package. The appointment will be for one year. Depending on the interests and availability of the candidates, part-time positions may be possible. While there is the possibility of position renewal, Yukon University would like to involve individuals from different Yukon First Nations over time. Knowledge Holders are eligible, if they are interested, to be considered in regular faculty competitions, in keeping with Yukon University\'s respect for the unique and invaluable wisdom of First Nations knowledge keepers.
Yukon University hopes to hire one Indigenous Knowledge Holder in 2023. The first individual will be appointed effective 1 September 2023. Expressions of interest are welcome at any time, but the formal selection process will begin in May 2023. Please feel free to contact the Program Chair in Indigenous Governance at Yukon University at . Yukoners are encouraged to nominate or recommend individuals they feel would be suited for this important position.
