We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Indigenous Knowledge and Traditional Use Specialist who understands protocols and considerations when working with Indigenous Nations, peoples, and their knowledge and traditional use. Our ideal candidate has excellent technical, communication, and interpersonal skills to add value to our talented team as well as experience in environmental assessments. The successful candidate will contribute to Ausenco\'s Indigenous Knowledge and Use service offering by leading the design, delivery, and reporting of Indigenous Knowledge and Use-related socio-cultural projects and related community, stakeholder and Indigenous engagement activities and deliverables.

The role may be based from any of our Canadian offices. and you may be required to travel for short periods of time. If you\xe2\x80\x99re the right person for the job, we are open to discussing possible remote working arrangements.

About the role

  • Lead Indigenous and socio-cultural related research programs, including baseline reports, effects assessments, cumulative effects assessment and other similar types of deliverables.
  • Act as a technical lead for work related to Indigenous Knowledge and traditional use on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Work with a team of specialists contributing to the development of cross-cultural, technical work.
  • Conduct and structure qualitative data analysis and interpretation.
  • Prepare well researched and written deliverables, in accordance with environmental assessment standards, best practices, preferences and/or protocols identified by respective Indigenous Nations, and/or provincial, territorial and/or federal regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and manage teams to the coordinate, organize and deliver socio-cultural research programs and related community engagement initiatives.
Qualifications

About you
  • Degree in geography, environmental assessment, social sciences, natural resource management, or related field of study.
  • Experience contributing to environmental assessments under federal, provincial and/or territorial project review processes (e.g., the BC Environmental Assessment Office (BC EAO), the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA, now the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC)), the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) and/or the former National Energy Board (NEB).
  • Demonstrated socio-cultural experience, working with or for Indigenous Nations.
  • Familiarity and demonstrated experience with Indigenous Knowledge and Use best practices, UNDRIP, FPIC and other related enhancements in related policy and/or regulatory advancements. Experienced facilitating meeting and/or engagement activities with diverse audiences.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent research, analysis and technical writing skills.
  • Knowledgeable of participatory action research methods and approaches.
  • Project management skills, ability to multi-task, work under tight timelines
  • Ability to produce quality products that stand up to public scrutiny.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience working with Indigenous Nations in BC, the Yukon, and/or communities across Canada.
  • Willing to travel, as required.
