Our Jacobs Indigenous Relations team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our team to enhance our Indigenous Relations Program. The program\xe2\x80\x99s goals are to promote respect through learning throughout the Jacobs family, establish and grow mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations, and create opportunities for Indigenous recruitment, retention, and professional development.

At Jacobs we\xe2\x80\x99re partnering with Indigenous Nations and businesses to help Indigenous Peoples benefit from the projects that we support. We work closely with our clients to develop procurement programs that promote the use of Indigenous vendors and work crews where possible. To meet these mandates, we are seeking a highly collaborative and motivated individual with the knowledge, experience, and commitment that will help develop, grow, and continually improve our Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Program. As the Indigenous Relations team lead you provide leadership and guidance on Jacobs\xe2\x80\x99s approach to reconciliation, community involvement, and supporting community development and readiness. You demonstrate corporate leadership by developing and implementing a Jacobs Canada-wide corporate Indigenous Reconciliation Program. The role also includes the opportunity to leverage your talents to support diversity, equity and inclusion efforts with other groups.

The geographic preference for this position is Western Canada and the option to work remotely is available.

The job includes:

  • Identifying potential business opportunities with Indigenous communities and organizations
  • Assessing the needs and capabilities of Indigenous communities and groups
  • Supporting the implementation of an Indigenous recruitment and training strategy
  • Providing direction on project-specific procurement programs
  • Driving solutions to obstacles and barriers to contracting Indigenous communities and groups
  • Coordinating and facilitating meetings between Indigenous communities/organizations
  • Mentor junior staff and promoting career development.
  • Promoting cross-cultural awareness within Jacobs
  • Hosting meetings, open houses, and workshops. Here\xe2\x80\x99s What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Need:
  • Postsecondary diploma or degree in Indigenous studies, anthropology, history, humanities, community development, business, or a related discipline
  • Experience in Indigenous engagement, procurement, contracting, or working with Indigenous communities
  • Experience engaging with Indigenous groups and collaborating with representatives and community members to resolve complex and often contentious issues
  • Proven ability to collaborate with Indigenous groups to identify opportunities to support capacity building
  • Proven facilitation abilities in meeting and field-based locales
  • Knowledge of Canadian Indigenous history and culture, protocols, and socio-economic circumstances
  • Willingness to travel to Indigenous communities (must maintain a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license) and be flexible outside of work hours
  • Existing positive working relationships with a variety of Indigenous communities, organizations, and businesses in Western Canada, Eastern Canada and Quebec
  • A working knowledge of sectors in which Jacobs is engaged, including public infrastructure, oil and gas, and mining
  • Understanding of international trade agreements, federal funding and other aspects of procurement related to private and government clients
