Position Details: 6-Month Fixed Term (October 2023 \xe2\x80\x93 March 2024)
Hourly Range: $24 - $26 per hour, based on a 35-hour work week.
Location: Yellowknife, Northwest Territories/Hybrid
Closing Deadline: July 31, 2023 (11:59PM EDT)

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Yukon and NWT Head, Industry and Government Relations, the Indigenous Conservation Coordinator will support conservation projects directly related to Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs), Indigenous communities, Nations, and organizations in a meaningful, respectful, and supportive manner.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work directly with NWT leaders, groups, and organizations and provide support for a range of Indigenous-led conservation activities, including but not limited to Indigenous Land Relationship Planning, the establishment of Indigenous Protected Conserved Areas (IPCAs), and Indigenous Guardians Programs.
  • Assist in the coordination of and participation in meetings with Indigenous rightsholders/partners.
  • Preparation of meeting materials including meeting agendas, information packages and briefings for meeting participants
  • Attendance at meetings, assist in notetaking, and assist in the completion of meeting "what we heard" documents. Facilitation of meetings and meetings tables may be required
  • Supporting the identification of risks and development of mitigation strategies relating to Indigenous-led conservation.
  • Research and report writing on background information regarding specific issues as directed.
Requirements
  • Enrolled in, or recently graduated from, an undergraduate or graduate program in Native Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, History, Education, Humanities, Biology, or other Social Science
  • Advanced certification/training on Indigenous Engagement or other related specialized study will also be considered an asset.
  • Experience in knowledge gathering and sharing within an ethical space to support Indigenous-led conservation.
  • Experience working with all aspects of Indigenous communities, Nations, and organizations, including engagement, facilitation, partnership/project coordination, and respectful and successful long-lasting and sustained relationships, would be an asset.
  • Research skills using a variety of methods and the ability to communicate this information into a useable format.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Forms)
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of diversity and inclusion best practices.
  • A valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license will be required as you may need to travel to remote areas/communities
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed, which may include evenings, weekends and overnight travel.
Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual\'s education and/or experience as it relates to the position.
