POSITION SUMMARY:
As an
Income Tax Preparer
, your primary responsibility will be preparing accurate and compliant Income tax returns for our diverse client base. You will also assist clients on tax-saving opportunities, help resolve tax issues, and stay current with changes to Canadian tax law and CRA requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and file T1 personal income tax returns, including employment, rental, investment, self-employment, and foreign income: with accuracy
(Optional) Prepare T2 corporate tax returns for small businesses and incorporated professionals - (We do have a designated corporate preparer, but this is an asset)
Conduct in-person and over the phone client consultations to gather relevant tax documentation and financial details
Identify eligible deductions, credits, and tax planning opportunities for clients
Ensure compliance with CRA regulations and deadlines
Communicate clearly with clients regarding tax matters, filing status, and refund/balance details
Respond to CRA notices and assist clients with audit support if needed
Maintain accurate records and always ensure client confidentiality
Stay updated on current tax legislation, budget changes, and CRA programs (e.g., CEBA, CCB, GST/HST credits)
Ability to work quickly, diligently, and build trust with our clients.
Willingness to learn and help with bookkeeping clients
PRE SEASON TAX TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 2/3 years of experience
preparing Canadian tax returns (T1 required; T2 a strong asset)
In-depth knowledge of current Canadian income tax rules and CRA procedures
Experience using tax preparation software (e.g., Profile, TaxCycle, Cantax, TurboTax for Pros, or similar)
Registered and in good standing with CRA (if you have an existing REP ID)
Enrolled Agent (EA), CPA, or CPB designation is a plus, but not required
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and confidentiality
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple clients and meet strict deadlines
Must have a knack for the industry and enjoy helping people
Understand the importance of maintaining privacy with sensitive information
Build positive relationships with our long time clients
