Incident Reporting Centre Specialist ( Fixed Term Contract till 2024-04-17 )

The IRC Specialist role will report to the Lead IRC Specialist. They will work with internal and contract team members to contribute to a best-in-class physical security program that consists of systems, policies and procedures with the objective of increasing company security adherence, awareness, creating a safe working environment, and remaining compliant with applicable regulatory bodies. This position will work within our Physical Security Operations Centre (PSOC) and will have operational responsibility for incident response coordination and management of physical events, incident investigations, the use of technology and applications within the PSOC and intelligence gathering and data analytics. Oversight and supervision of contract staff members within the PSOC will also be a key responsibility of the role. This role also involves working rotational shifts from Monday to Friday.

Note: The ability to attain Reliability Status Clearance for this role is essential. When you are required to apply for this clearance, you must have lived continuously in Canada for the last 5+ years at the time of your clearance application. No exceptions please.

What will you do?

  • Working in a fast-paced environment, you will execute day-to-day PSOC operations, including the coordination and management of responses to physical incidents, which may or may not affect Sun Life buildings and personnel.
  • Coordinate and execute investigations related to physical incidents, in collaboration with physical security colleagues and other PSOC personnel.
  • Generate timely and accurate tactical intelligence products from a variety of sources.
  • Apply established impact rating systems to real-time scenarios impacting Sun Life.
  • Alarm monitoring and response dispatch for Sun Life occupied premises.
  • Engage emergency services such as police, ambulance, and fire departments, as needed.
  • Analyze incident data to identify trends and metrics.
  • Monitor Sun Life employee travel, including Executive travel, to identify associated risks.
  • Identify and assess international events to understand their potential impact to Sun Life, internationally and domestically.
  • Create and classify detailed incident reports that document event details.
  • Create and implement knowledge documents, focusing on content verification and accuracy.
  • Work with internal and external industry peers to identify and address physical threats that could affect company assets, including Sun Life buildings and personnel.
What You Need To Succeed
  • Degree or diploma in physical and/or information security, investigations, or risk management; or comparable professional education/training in a field relevant to security or investigation management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience within a corporate, government security or risk department for a similar organization of comparable size and complexity.
  • A recognized professional designation in physical and/or information security.
Preferred Skills
  • Fundamental knowledge of Intelligence Cycle, as well as investigative principles, protocols, practices and industry standards (i.e., interview and evidence handling skills)
  • Proficiency (a combination of experience and training) with Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT).
  • Ability to accurately manage, triage, collate and assess the credibility of large volumes of information.
  • Analytical thinking with a curious mind-set.
  • Equally comfortable following detailed instructions as making decisions in the absence of information.
  • Understanding of organizational priorities and relationships.
  • Experience with physical and/or information security and intelligence solutions (e.g., incident workflow management, cyber threats, access control and video management, perimeter/interior intrusion detection, risk assessment software, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • Ability to attend to tense situations.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of ethics, diversity, equity, and harassment in the workplace.
  • Strong collaboration skills, self-starter, strategic thinker, negotiator, and consensus builder.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
