The Immersion Camps Coordinator is a full-time continuing role that exists within the Indigenous Language Immersion in Anishinaabemowin (ILIA) program that is overseen by the Department of Anthropology. The ILIA program will serve students enrolled in the Indigenous Language Immersion in Anishinaabemowin stream of the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Indigenous Languages.
The successful candidate will coordinate the immersion camps and other community- and land-based learning in the Anishinaabe Immersion program, coordinate the Mentor-Apprentice program, and provide administrative support for the ILIA program. The position will liaise between students, staff, and faculty in the ILIA program.
Responsibilities:

• Serve as a primary administrative contact for Anishinaabemowin speakers, Elders, students, and instructors participating in program activities.
• Ensure honoraria, contracts, and reimbursements for Elders and community partners are processed efficiently and respectfully.
• Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with Indigenous communities and cultural organizations.
• Develop communication and outreach materials and activities to advertise and report on field schools and land-based learning.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for permission to enroll in immersion camps.
• Collaborate on preparing, managing, and monitoring the program budget.
• Process financial transactions.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for audits and reporting.
• Prepare regular budget summaries and detailed financial reports for leadership.
• Ensure compliance with university policies, funding agreements, and financial guidelines.
• Create fundraising strategies.
• Identify potential donors and funders of Indigenous languages initiatives, and prepare grant proposals and reports.
• Oversee the planning, execution, logistics, and administration of the language immersion camp and other land- and community-based learning.
• Develop and implement safety policies and procedures for camps and land- and community- based learning.
• Submit ethics applications for any recording or materials co-creation occurring during language immersion camps and land- and community-based learning.
• Document field school activities, including record-keeping and archiving of audio-visual recordings.
• Oversee the implementation of the Mentor-Apprentice program, including scheduling and record-keeping.
• Hire teaching assistants, mentors, caterers, bus drivers, and other support staff.
• Support faculty and instructors in the completion and submission of program documents.
• Collaborate with external partners, cultural organizations, and local communities to create authentic and enriching language immersion experiences.
• Support students throughout the field school, addressing concerns, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring a positive, safe, and productive experience.
• Attend language immersion camps, and other land- and community-based learning activities.
• Coordinate with Anishinaabe Elders, language teachers, and cultural partners in a respectful and professional manner.
• Provide travel arrangements, transportation, accommodations, and resource preparation for field-based programming.
• Evaluate and report on camps' activities, challenges, and successes, and recommend changes for future camps.
• Coordinate pre-departure orientations, providing students with necessary information about the field school, cultural etiquette, and expectations.
• Provide administrative support for meetings, workshops, and community events.
• Support faculty in promoting and growing the Anishinaabemowin immersion program within the university.
• Track and report on student enrolment and engagement.
• Other tasks as required.

Qualifications:

• A post-secondary diploma or degree in Administration, Business, Indigenous Studies, Language Studies, Education, or a related field preferred.
• Three years of demonstrated experience in financial administration, budgeting, and reporting.
• Experience in writing academic policies, safety policies, grants, and promotional material is an asset.
• Experience in academic program assessment an asset.
• Experience in fundraising an asset.
• Experience in event planning is an asset.
• Highly developed interpersonal, collaborative, and interprofessional skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and build collegial relationships with other team members.
• Ability to work respectfully and effectively with Indigenous Elders, language teachers, and community members.
• Client-service orientation.
• Proficiency with office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and financial management systems).
• Strong organizational, multitasking, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement in managing risk- and opportunity- taking situations and work well under pressure
• Able to work with minimal supervision.
• Able to maintain confidentiality.
• Able to work flexible hours on an infrequent basis.
• Knowledge of land-based learning is an asset.
• Knowledge of the University of Winnipeg, its purpose, its organization, and its communication channels is an asset.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Condition(s) of Employment:

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The salary range for this position will be from $53,926.60 to $74,765.60 annually.
Note: The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person, with an opportunity to apply for Remote Work for up to two (2) days per week.
