Job Summary
The Hyperbaric Technologist oversees elective and emergency medical hyperbaric treatments and provides technical assistance to the Hyperbaric Technical Coordinator & Safety Director as required during scheduled preventative maintenance and during emergency maintenance and repairs. The Hyperbaric Technologist provides technical support to the medical staff to provide quality patient care as well as administrative support regarding documentation, maintenance, and other related duties as required. The Hyperbaric Technologist participates in the clinical care of patients, and liaises with other Eastern Health departments, provincial government, industry and the general public as required.
The Hyperbaric Technologist works independently in a dynamic and often challenging environment, and must participate in required and future training and educational programs required for the position. Must provide on call coverage regarding hyperbaric emergencies.

Uses precision work and hand tools that require accurate control and steadiness.
Uses a number of body postures such as sitting, standing and walking during the course of daily activities; and at times works in awkward and cramped positions.
Visual concentration and eye hand coordination are required to operate, maintain and repair hyperbaric equipment.
Auditory concentration is required to listen for alarms or monitors in the hyperbaric chamber.
A higher than normal level of attentiveness and carefulness is required for this position due to the risks associated with cryogenic fluids, and high pressure oxygen and air.
Works under time pressures and deadlines.
Job Qualifications
Successful completion of an approved/recognized health care professional education program, and current and continuing registration/licensure with the relevant registering/licensing body, such as a Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Licensed Practical Nurse, Primary Care Paramedic, or Advanced Care Paramedic, is required.
Successful completion of the Certified Category I Unrestricted Surface Supply Diver, Unrestricted Surface Supply Diving Supervisor course, equivalent military diving training, and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to clinical hyperbaric treatments, is required.
Current and continuing certification as a Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) is required.*
Certification as a Hyperbaric Chamber Operator is an asset.
Minimum of three years\' experience within the last five years performing therapeutic treatments using approved decompression tables, using and maintaining hyperbaric chambers, and operating high- and low-pressure gas delivery systems and their subcomponents is required.
Experience with both mono-place and multi-place chambers is an asset.
Current and continuing certification in BLS is required.
Certification is ACLS is an asset.
Strong knowledge in Dive Tables and procedures, and operations of both Monoplace and Multiplace Hyperbaric chambers.
Strong knowledge and expertise in the applicable regulations, standards, guidelines and industry practices, and the ability to incorporate these practices into daily operations, including the Canadian Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Association and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.
Knowledge of treatment of acutely ill patients.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a high degree of autonomy in a high stress environment.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain successful working relationships within a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated ability to act as a subject matter expert in Hyperbaric Medicine.
Demonstrated commitment to continuing education.
Satisfactory record of work performance and attendance.
