Overview:This position is located in Hay River, NTUnder the general supervision and direction of the Manager, Plant Operations the incumbent is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the electrical generating units, plants and their respective auxiliary equipment at the Diesel/Hydro sites in the Hydro Division. Ability to safely conduct oneself during an emergency situation. Responsibilities:

• Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
• Responsible to operate the both hydro sites and diesel gensets; meeting the system requirements by synchronization, coordinating loads between units, take units on and off from the system bus manually or using automation such as a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).
• Effectively communicates the overall operation, availability, issues of the equipment to other operators, cross shifts and system control operators.
• Assist in system restoration following a system disturbance under the direction of the Control Centre Operator and NTPC management.
• Reads and interprets single line diagrams, drawings, diagrams, schematics and specifications of a variety of types of electrical equipment, including manufacturer's manuals and parts books.
• Applies, receives and interprets Safety Work Protection Code applications; de-energizes and isolates/energizes and returns to service; units, plants and their respective auxiliary equipment as per Work Protection Code procedures.
• You will be required to provide training to and receive training from co-workers, as we as perform other responsibilities in applicable areas within your work unit as assigned by the Manager/supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Red Seal Journeyperson certification as either Electrician, Millwright or Heavy-Duty Mechanic, with at least two (2) years' power generation or utility experience or mining/industrial generation experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
• Good planning, trouble shooting, organizational and communications skills.
• Proficient in computer applications such as email communications, spreadsheets, word processing software and knowledge of Maintenance management systems.
• Ability to read off blueprints as well as interpret drawings, diagrams and specifications of a variety of types of electrical and mechanical equipment, including manufacturers manuals and parts books.
• Team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must have a valid full class 5 drivers license or higher.
• Satisfactory criminal record check.

Salary for this position ranges from $54.10/hr - $65.72/hr, plus a location allowance of $3,823.
