The Opportunity
As a Hybrid Seed Production Agronomist, you will manage all field activities related to hybrid seed production, working closely with grower partners. Your agronomic expertise will ensure each crop meets or exceeds HyTech's internal standards and our customers' expectations for quality, yield, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Grower Relationships
Partner with growers to produce high-yielding, high-quality hybrid seed crops (canola, mustard, fall rye, vegetable crops, and hemp).
Provide expert agronomic advice on fertility management, pest control, and irrigation scheduling.
Monitor crop development to ensure optimal flowering synchronization, trimming, and male removal timing.
Data collection on all field conditions such as plant stand, volunteer pressure, bee activity, insect/weeds/disease pressure and risk.
Field Operations
Select fields based on crop rotation, isolation distance, and volunteer management requirements.
Monitor and manage insect, weed, and disease pressures to maintain seed purity and quality.
Oversee field activities such as pollinator placement, rogueing, and harvest readiness.
Ensure fields are inspection-ready and compliant with quality and certification standards.
Monitor bin conditions post-harvest to maintain seed quality during storage.
Equipment and Data Management
Calibrate and maintain planting, spraying, harvest, and cleaning equipment to ensure precision.
Maintain detailed field records using HyCrop and contribute to post-season performance reviews for continuous improvement.
Work collaboratively with the accounting team to support accurate grower settlements.
Facility Operations Support
Support seed processing, including drying, treating, and packaging.
Operate small volume equipment and forklifts as needed.
Follow inventory control and safety protocols while assisting facility operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in agriculture or a related field.
Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) designation, or willingness to obtain certification.
Proven experience in seed production or agronomy across multiple crops
Strong agronomic decision-making skills supported by data and field insight.
Excellent communication, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
Proactive, adaptable, and detail-oriented approach to managing priorities.
