Reports to: Senior VP, TDT

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

  • Assist in proposing and carrying out technical investigations in solid dielectric and fluid filled cable and as well as in GIS projects
  • Participate in planning and development of technical proposals for theoretical studies and/or field investigations of Kinectrics or client problems in conjunction with the Senior Global Technical Director
  • Assist in negotiation and administration of contracts with external customers
  • Participate in and provide technical input to internal and external committees as required
  • Participate in joint research projects with external agencies and utilities
  • Give direction related to technical issues, project scope, cost, timeliness, and customer satisfaction.
  • Keep informed of technical developments and techniques in the assigned field of cables and GIS work for professional development
  • Assist in preparing technical articles or papers, in conjunction with the Senior Global Technical Director
  • Assist in industry work group committee work in conjunction with the Senior Global Technical Director
  • Maintain Kinectrics test database and direct junior staff for database building and mining activities under direction of the Senior Global Technical Director
  • Cooperate and work with internal and external customers on the resolution of technical problems.
  • Provide clients with regular reports on progress at a predetermined schedule
  • Prepare recommendations for Senior Global Technical Director project leader, site supervisor on findings arising from the prescribed testing, analysis, design or computational tasks that were carried out.
  • Develop increasing skills including project management, customer relations and interpersonal behavior
  • Will generally attend and participate together with the Senior Global Technical Director, and Supervisor in client consultations defining the scope of project requirements and assisting in making recommendations with respect to fieldwork and testing techniques
  • Contributory responsibility for work with a value in the range of $5M -6M per year, and contributory responsibility for gross margin that meet or exceed the budget expectations
  • Assign work; provide oral or written instructions and direction and assist in day-to-day resolution of work problems with a group as described above



What You Need to Succeed
  • Requires specialized knowledge of the theory, principles and practices associated with electrical engineering with an emphasis on materials /dielectric science
  • Normally acquired in a 4-year university program or recognized educational equivalent. Evidence of post graduate work in the areas of high voltage engineering or dielectrics will be considered an asset
  • Specialized experience in the above subject areas gained in academic or utility R&D or manufacturing environments is highly valued to compensate for some of the educational requirements defined above
  • Work experience must include providing technical advice, guidance, consultation and services within the cable/GIS discipline.
  • Direct experience with cable installation including laying and splicing activities as well as commissioning testing is preferred.
  • Experience shall include acting in task/project leadership roles and/or technical problem solving
  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communications is required for preparation of reports, proposals, recommendations, and presentations
  • Prepare technical papers and articles for publication in scientific journals in conjunction with senior staff
  • Participate in external technical committees, task groups, and other relevant external education opportunities
