POSITION DESCRIPTION
The
Human Resources Generalist
plays a critical role in the Human Resources department by delivering a wide spectrum of HR responsibilities in a union environment, including labour relations, recruitment and onboarding, performance management, compliance, health and safety and training and development.
The HR Generalist serves as a resource to ensure HR policies, procedures, and initiatives are understood and consistently applied to support a positive work environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruitment and Selection:
Managing the recruitment process including creating job postings, screening candidates, conducting interviews and managing onboarding process.
Health and Safety:
Promoting a safe and healthy work environment, participating in accident and workplace investigations and ensuring compliance with workplace safety regulations.
Performance Management:
Implementing and administering performance management programs, providing guidance to managers on performance issues and supporting employees in performance improvement plans.
Policy Development and Implementation:
Developing, updating and implementing HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and the collective agreement.
Employee Relations:
Building positive relationships with employees and union representatives, addressing employee concerns. Handling of grievances and workplace investigations.
Compliance:
Ensuring compliance with all relevant employment legislation.
HR Events:
Plan and execute HR related events, including employee recognition programs, training sessions and team-building activities.
HR Technology:
Maintain and manage the HR information System (HRIS) to ensure accurate records; analyze HR data to generate reports and provide insights for decision-making.

EDUCATION

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
1-3 years of Human Resources experience, focusing on generalist duties.
Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Experience in workplace investigations and employee relations.
HR Certification preferred (e.g., HRPA - CHRA, CHRL, PHR).
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with employees, managers, and stakeholders.
Problem-solving:
Ability to identify and resolve HR-related issues, providing guidance and support to employees and managers.
Organization and Time Management:
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
Interpersonal Skills:
Ability to build relationships, foster teamwork, and mediate conflicts.
Knowledge of HR Practices and Employment Law:
Understanding of HR principles, best practices, and relevant employment laws.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HR information systems.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license. The successful candidate would have to provide proof that s/he has a valid driver's license upon being hired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT
Office work may involve prolonged periods of sitting at a workstation and repetitive movements associated with such tasks.
Field work may involve extended periods away from home, long hours, and exposure to both physically and mentally demanding environments.
Evening and weekend work may be required. Work hours will vary to meet operational needs.
Prolonged use of a computer.
Frequent use of the telephone.
Driving, air travel, cross-border travel, and attendance at off-site meetings.
Frequent long-distance travel by motor vehicle.
Must be able to lift and transport boxes containing various materials to and from meetings.
