Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Generalist plays a critical role within the Plant HR team, ensuring that HR programs and initiatives align with both employee needs and business objectives in a diverse and unionized environment. This role is responsible for the administration of HR policies and procedures, implementation of initiatives, and support of employee and labour relations, including leading investigations and supporting issue resolution. The HR Generalist serves as a primary point of contact for employees and supervisors across all shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
Labour Relations & Employee Support
Interpret and apply the Collective Agreement to assist with grievance handling and labour relations issues.
Conduct workplace investigations and provide recommendations for resolution, ensuring alignment with company policies, the Collective Agreement, and best practices.
Advise and support supervisors and operational leaders on day-to-day labour relations matters.
Administer the Attendance Management Program and escalate complex cases to the HR Manager as required.
Support accommodations and the non-occupational leave processes, including employee follow-up and return-to-work coordination.
Serve as a trusted resource to employees by responding to HR-related questions and concerns.
Proactively manage employee issues in support of Sofina's culture.
Employee Engagement & Training
Plan, coordinate, and support employee training sessions, culture-building initiatives, and engagement activities.
Conduct hourly employee exit interviews and compile insights into exit analysis reports for leadership review.
Strategic HR Planning & Metrics
Collaborate with Plant Managers and other stakeholders to implement annual HR plans aligned with business objectives.
Track, analyze, and report on key HR metrics; recommend and implement actions based on findings.
Recruitment & Onboarding
Lead full-cycle recruitment for hourly and salaried positions: job postings, screening, interviews, reference checks, and offer letters.
Conduct new hire orientations to ensure consistent onboarding practices and employee integration.
HR Administration & Program Support
Administer company policies and practices while implementing both corporate and site-level HR initiatives.
Maintain accurate employee records and support HR audits and reporting within HRIS and internal systems.
Provide administrative support including payroll, benefits inquiries, vouchers, and job reference letters.
Provide back-up support to the Health & Safety team, including incident documentation and investigations.
Qualifications:
Diploma or Certificate in Human Resources Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
CHRP designation (or progress toward) is a strong asset.
3-5+ years of experience in an HR generalist role, preferably within a manufacturing or unionized environment.
Excellent knowledge and experience in core HR functions.
Experience in Labour and Employee Relations, including conflict resolution and investigations.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to influence and support leaders.
Comfortable developing and executing plans, promoting ideas, and implementing initiatives.
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and HRIS systems.
Willingness to travel to applicable locations as needed.
