Description:
Under general direction of the Assistant Director, the Human Resources Consultant supports the operational and strategic human resource needs of Departments, Centres, Institutes, Schools, Colleges and programs within the Faculty of Arts & Science portfolio. The HR Consultant partners with clients to provide a full range of HR services; providing advice and support to managers and administrators regarding matters for non-union and unionized staff.
The HR Consultant provides advice and guidance to clients regarding employee and labour relations matters, organizational change management, job design, evaluation and organizational structures; compensation administration, full cycle recruitment and selection. The HR Consultant advises and supports performance management, accommodations and leaves; conflict resolution and conducts workplace investigations. Responsibilities include interpretation, application and administration of the applicable collective agreements, employment policies, employment legislation including the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Employment Standards Act.
Qualifications
Education

  • University degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. CHRP or CHRL designation preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years' relevant and progressively responsible human resource experience.
  • Experience with collective agreement and employment policy interpretation and application.
  • Experience with unionized and non-unionized job evaluation, compensation and recruitment methodology and practices.
  • Experience advising and guiding on labour relations matters, participating in grievance processes, organizational change planning and implementation, and with performance management.
  • Experience in conducting workplace investigations and fact-finding processes is a strong asset.
Skills
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated proactive and effective client service orientation.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to issues of equity and diversity, and ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills, ability to understand and synthesize information, and to apply a variety of employment policies and collective agreements.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize a fluctuating workload with an excellent ability to successfully manage multiple conflicting priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
Other:
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Demonstrated competence with databases/information systems and compiling and analyzing human resources information.
  • Demonstrated competence with online recruitment systems (e.g., SuccessFactors) and job evaluation systems.
