Why is this role important?
Reporting to the Manager, HR Advisory and Talent Acquisition the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) provides strategic advice and guidance to management and senior management across the HR function. The HRBP formulates partnerships with business leaders to deliver quality HR services and advise on people best practices for optimal business outcomes. They play a critical role in solving business problems with people solutions in alignment with the organizations strategic plan.
What you'll do
1. Provides strategic advice and guidance to CIHI's Leadership team on policy interpretation, workforce planning, talent management, talent acquisition/recruitment initiatives, learning and professional development, performance management and employee relations.
2. Provides leadership and guidance to staff. Supervises, coaches, coordinates and monitors work, workload and performance of staff to ensure quality, continuous learning opportunities and on-time completion of departmental deliverables and commitments. Conducts annual performance management reviews.
3. Works closely with management and senior management on initiatives to improve work relationships, build engagement, and increase productivity and retention
4. Leads and supports implementation of strategic workforce planning initiatives by ensuring frameworks, processes, and tools are consistently applied throughout the organization to meet long-term talent resourcing and capability requirements..
5. Delivers and interprets HR analytics to clients to address workforce planning, and talent acquisition needs, and further CIHI's strategic business goals through actionable data and informed decision-making.
6. Supports workforce talent management and succession planning for assigned client groups to ensure effective workforce planning. Provides advice /recommendations to hiring manager and assists in resource planning in compliance with recruitment policies and procedures.
7. Researches, recommends and implements assigned HR programs related to employee relations, employee engagement, talent acquisition and retention etc. which includes developing workplans, ensuring best practices are followed, completing projects, delivering internal training workshops, and policy review.
8. Works with management on employee relations matters and staff performance issues, provides strategic guidance and coaching and makes recommendations related to performance improvement plans and ensures compliance with employment standards. Recommends corrective action using the Employee Discipline Guidelines when employees' conduct is unsatisfactory or fails to meet CIHI's expectations.
9. Guides hiring managers on CIHI's job evaluation process to ensure positions have accurate, comprehensive job descriptions that align with internal equity and industry standards.
10. Provides guidance to management on disability files, accommodation plans and gradual return to work plans, including coverage.
11. Provides insight and recommends solutions to Junior HR Business Partners and Recruiters concerning HR program delivery, talent acquisition, and compliance with legislative requirements.
12. Leads and supports other HR related duties and initiatives as required.
What you'll bring to the table
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. Completion of, or actively working towards, obtaining a Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/CHRL) designation required.
  • 5 - 7years of relevant and progressive experience working in Human Resources in a complex corporate environment delivering high quality strategic advice regarding employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, job evaluation, HRIS, disability management, and talent acquisition with an emphasis on behavioural based interviewing.
  • 1 to 3 years' experience leading a team of HR professionals.
  • Strong technical skills including experience using an applicant tracking system, HRIS system, and high-level proficiency with MS Office suite of tools is required. Experience working with AI tools including ChatGPT and Copilot. Working with Njoyn and/or Unit4 Business World is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience working with relevant employment legislation including the Employment Standards Act and Ontario Human Rights Code, and knowledge of current industry trends and best practices related to human resources.
  • Experience with HR policy development.
  • Committed to service excellence and demonstrated success working in an integrated HR client service-delivery team. Experience working in a business partner model is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization and negotiation skills. Strong business acumen with the ability to apply a broader corporate perspective.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and facilitation communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with complex scenarios, and pivot in a shifting environment.
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
