Reporting to the Manager Human Resources, Canada we are seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join our HR team in Calgary. As an HRBP, you will be responsible for developing and implementing HR plans and strategies that align with business objectives in order to meet the needs of your defined client group. You will also provide professional HR guidance and support in a unionized environment, anticipating and determining people requirements that address potential business challenges in achieving business objectives, as well as facilitate discussions within your defined client group in support of people planning and implementation.

What You Will Be Doing

General Overview

  • Build relationships and partner with business operations to understand their priorities and deliver Human Resources solutions and services
  • Work with Leaders within your defined client group to build effective teams and drive alignment of team and individual goals to overall business goals
  • Participate in and project manage annual programs for your defined client group including performance management, compensation planning, workforce planning and succession planning
  • Utilize key data metrics to enable recommendations and decision making
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to ensure we are building and managing the candidate pipeline
  • Training - design and configure training resources for management, organize annual training initiatives, participate in and monitor in-house training programs
Employee and Labour Relations
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and Provincial Employment legislation
  • Ensure collective agreement terms and conditions are followed and provide guidance to managers on interpretation of collective agreement
  • Participate in collective agreement negotiations
  • Respond to and manage grievances and participate in arbitration hearings
  • Provide counsel on progressive discipline and performance management issues
  • Conduct investigations, develop and implement recommendations, and follow through on decided actions
  • Implement, communicate and ensure compliance to all BURNCO and client policies and procedures
  • Provide advice on claims management and return to work for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses
Talent Management
  • In collaboration with the Manager HR, Canada you will support Talent Management initiatives, playing a key role in the design, development and implementation of a range of strategic initiatives designed to enhance employee skill development based on the critical abilities essential for success
  • Provide direction and guidance to management in the annual performance appraisal process
  • Provide leadership and facilitate activities that will build and enhance employee engagement and retention
What We Would Like From You
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or post-secondary education at college or university level, with a focus on Human Resources or Labour Relations and/or a combination of experience and education
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in the field of Human Resources, with a minimum of 5 years as a HR Business Partner/Advisor
  • Solid understanding of Government Regulations, Human Resources policies and procedures, Compensation and Benefits
  • Experience working with unions and employee associations would be considered an asset
  • A strong business acumen along with outstanding coaching, consulting and analytical skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Adaptable with demonstrated capability of managing multiple priorities effectively to completion
  • Capable of critical and out-of-the-box thinking
  • A collaborative team player who can work independently
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Comfortable using ERP systems like Oracle Cloud, JDE, etc. and HRIS tools like UKG Pro
  • Ability to travel to various locations within Western Canada
