Responsibilities:

  • Displays a commitment to Waiward\xe2\x80\x99s incident-free vision, values, and culture;
  • Support and help develop all HSSE Advisors to the point of competency and marketability by ensuring that all training and development plans are in place and being executed;
  • Lead corporate safety initiatives by positive example;
  • Demonstrate ownership and leadership by actively participating in all phases (inspections, audits, assessments, tours, etc.) of the HSSE management plan;
  • Preparation of contract-specific Hazard Assessment and safety execution plans in compliance with client requirements;
  • Provide assistance in all pre-contract, tender assessment and contract administration for projects in relation HSSE requirements and expectations;
  • Approval of sub-contractor\xe2\x80\x99s Safety Management Plans and Safe Operating Procedures before work commences when required;
  • Ensure HSE coverage for the site under their control.
  • Monitors key safety performance indicators on various active job sites;
  • Ensure reporting of performance measures by sub-ordinates on a weekly basis;
  • Ensure inclusion of OH&S legislation in preparation of Project Execution Plans, Definition of Objectives and Project kick-off;
  • Follow up on corrective actions from high potential incident investigations;
  • Work with the HSE Manager on all hiring for HSSE Positions;
  • Ensure that HSSE Advisors are up to speed with their roles as HSSE competency champions;
  • Maintain current knowledge and copies relevant OH&S acts and regulations and provide guidance to project team on the same;
  • Liaise with clients, other OH&S professionals and regulatory authorities;
  • Aid in the development and implementation of emergency response plans;
  • Help to develop and implement and train on Waiward\xe2\x80\x99s safe work practice and procedures;
  • Performs daily/weekly site inspections with Management and contractors\xe2\x80\x99 involvement.
  • Confirms compliance with legal/regulatory requirements, and site policies/procedures regarding the security of client/Waiward sensitive information, personnel and vehicle access to/from site, and client/Waiward property.
  • Monitor projects to ensure that the safe work permits, and pre-job activities are happening effectively. Review completed safe work permits and ensure they are being completed according to the project procedures.
  • Reports security incidents to the client/Waiward and investigates, or cooperates with those investigating, the threat, breach, irregularity, or crime.
  • Ensure adequate investigation and analysis of incidents (non-injury and injury).
  • Ensure prompt and adequate treatment for injured employees and subcontractor personnel.
Qualifications:
  • OH&S diploma or equivalent, CRSP would be considered an asset with at least five (5) years construction experience;
  • Minimum five (5) years as NCSO with relevant construction experience;
  • Trade ticket or experience in the industrial construction & maintenance environment considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of regulations and related codes;
  • Excellent computer skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills;
  • Ability to prioritize work and problem solve.
Working ConditionsThe incumbent is required to work on a construction site with moderate noise, extreme temperatures and numerous hazards including equipment.Physical RequirementsThe incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading.
