Position Summary:



We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) & Regulatory Specialist to join our team. This key role is responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements across all upstream operations. The successful candidate will play a central role in developing and supporting field safety programs, while fostering strong, proactive relationships with regulatory agencies, including the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and the Government of Saskatchewan. The position will also manage corporate compliance activities through regulatory platforms such as OneStop, Digital Data Submission (DDS), and IRIS.

The ideal candidate should also have experience tracking, reporting and uploading annual closure spend uploads in both Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Experience working with the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) would be an asset.

This position requires a detailed-oriented and proactive individual who can interpret and apply directives and regulations, manage regulatory submissions, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure safety and regulatory alignment throughout the corporation.

Key Responsibilities:



Work as part of a cross functional team on HSE and regulatory initiatives.

Lead the preparation, submission, and tracking of regulatory applications, amendments, and notifications through AER's OneStop platform and Saskatchewan's IRIS platform.

Interpret and implement directives, bulletins, and industry guidance relevant to oil and gas operations.

Coordinate with operations, engineering, and land departments to gather and validate information required for regulatory filings.

Maintain up-to-date records of all regulatory obligations and commitments, ensuring audit readiness.

Monitor, report and upload annual minimum closure spend under both Alberta and Saskatchewan liability management programs, ensuring ongoing compliance and alignment with corporate strategy.

Liaise with government personnel and industry groups to stay informed of upcoming regulatory changes and participate in relevant consultations or feedback opportunities.

Support closure and abandonment programs with proper regulatory submissions including closure reports, licence transfers, and LLR/LLI assessments.

Contribute to internal policy development to strengthen regulatory compliance and reduce risk exposure.

Identify areas of regulatory risk and propose practical mitigation strategies.

Qualifications:



Minimum 5+ years of experience in a safety and regulatory compliance role within the upstream oil and gas industry, preferably with an Alberta-based producer.

Direct experience working with AER and Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources.

Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Engineering, Land/Regulatory Studies, or a related discipline is preferred but not required.

Strong working knowledge of AER directives, OneStop, DDS, and the Liability Management Framework.

Demonstrated experience developing and implementing field safety programs and procedures.

Familiarity with IRIS and Saskatchewan regulatory processes.

Demonstrated experience with Annual Closure Spend reporting and submissions in both provinces.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and confidence using digital regulatory platforms including Muddy Boots and Envirosoft.

Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet regulatory deadlines.

Experience with CER regulations and reporting would be an asset.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively interact with regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
