The Position
SSA Marine is recruiting an HRIS Business Analyst for an 18-month contract position at our North Vancouver office. The HRIS Business Analyst will report to the Vice President, People.
The HRIS Business Analyst improves HR system efficiency in Canada, aligning with global standards. They manage HR data, integrate platforms, and create reports for strategic decision-making. The HRIS Business Analyst identifies and manages requirements for HR systems and business intelligence tools, analyzes processes, and, working with IT, enhances solutions to meet organizational needs. Additionally, they provide HR administrative support to ensure smooth department operations through data-driven insights.
The HRIS Business Analyst role is office-based with some work-from-home eligibility. It may require occasional travel to offices or vendor sites for system support. Office tasks include desk work, computer use, and meetings, often involving focused attention for data analysis, troubleshooting, or training.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities are, but not limited to:
Requirements Gathering and Analysis - 35%
Organizes and facilitates structured sessions with HR, IT, and business stakeholders to gather comprehensive business and technical requirements.
Analyzes requirements, business processes, workflows, and data to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation.
Collaborates with stakeholders to validate, refine, and document detailed functional and non-functional requirements.
Supports workforce planning through data insights and trends analysis, where applicable.
System Implementation, Testing, and Support - 25%
Leads the planning, configuration, and deployment of HR technology solutions (e.g., ADP, business intelligence tools). This is to be done in consultation with IT.
Coordinates with IT, vendors, and cross-functional teams to ensure smooth system integration and deployment.
Working with IT where appropriate, designs and executes test cases and validation plans for new functionality, system updates, and patches.
Maintains ongoing user support, system monitoring, and resolution of technical issues post-implementation.
Administers system upgrades, role-based access control, and user provisioning in alignment with security policies.
Process Improvement and Change Management - 20%
Analyzes and manages business process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and user experience within HR operations.
Collaborates with HR and operational teams to identify pain points and optimize end-to-end workflows.
Leads continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance standards.
Supports change management and communication plans to ensure effective adoption of new systems and processes.
Reporting, Analytics, and Documentation - 15%
Develops and maintains dashboards, reports, and metrics to support strategic HR initiatives and business decision-making (e.g., HR metrics, annual compensation review process, training program tracking).
Coordinates with stakeholders to deliver ad hoc and scheduled reports accurately and on time.
Maintains comprehensive documentation of system configurations, process flows, change logs, and user manuals.
Training and User Support - 5%
Delivers training sessions and user guides to ensure effective use of HR systems and tools across departments.
Provides ongoing technical support to HR staff and system users, serving as the first point of contact for issue resolution.
Liaises with IT and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve system-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
Data Governance, Compliance, and Security - Included across areas (5-10% overall)
Ensures HRIS processes comply with internal policies, industry regulations, union agreements, and data privacy laws.
Monitors data quality and integrity, implementing audits, validations, and cleanup processes.
Supports internal and external audits by producing accurate documentation and reports.
Qualifications & Skills
Knowledge
Employment-related laws and regulations (local, provincial, federal)
Human resources principles, practices, and procedures (recruitment, compensation, benefits, employee relations, performance management)
Business administration principles related to HR
HRIS systems and data reporting fundamentals
IIFS experience preferred
Skills
Advanced analytical skills for interpreting complex data sets
Proficiency in business intelligence tools (Excel, Power BI, etc.)
Strong written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
High-level problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Project coordination and stakeholder management
Abilities
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reporting
Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams
Ability to provide system training and end-user support
Adaptable to evolving priorities and digital transformation initiatives
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in managing sensitive HR data
Education and Experience
Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Human Resources, Information Systems, or a related field is required
Minimum of 3+ years in a similar HRIS analyst or business systems role
Previous experience in HR operations or shared services is an asset
Marine, logistics industry experience is preferable
