The Human Resources Services team consists of functional units such as HR Operations (Payroll and Data Management, HR Client Services, HR Systems Strategy, Reporting and Analytics), Talent, Equity & Development, Health, Safety, Wellbeing & Labour Relations, Total Compensation, Benefits & Retirement Programs and Strategic Implementation, who enable the delivery of comprehensive Human Resources programs and services in collaboration with leaders, HR area offices and HR practitioners across our community.
About the Position
As the Strategic Project Manager, you will report to the Associate Director, Strategic Implementation Team and will be responsible for leading and managing portfolio of HR Process Optimization and Technology projects that are critical to the transformation of HR. This may include:
  • Leading planning and prioritization of the project portfolio based on strategic objectives, cost/benefit considerations, timing, and capacity.
  • Lead the development of project charters, business case documents and cost justifications.
  • Responsible for the effective project management and delivery execution of large complex client implementations.
  • Accountable for running large scale online and in-person, communications, brainstorming sessions, focus groups and surveys.
  • Accountable for planning, managing, leading and motivating a cross functional team to implement projects in support of HR best practices and processes.
  • Managing strong healthy relationships with stakeholders, project teams and internal/external HR clients ensuring that project delivery expectations are clearly defined and met.
  • Support the improvement the automation of HR practices in-line with the broader HR Technology Roadmap and business process optimization Strategy.
  • Assist in the development of a master schedule of all HR technology and business process initiatives.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients and project stakeholders; meet with clients to take detailed ordering briefs and clarify specific requirements of each project.
  • Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress.
  • Track project performance and enable the successful completion of short- and long-term goals and promote the use of the Project Management framework, identifying enhancements and process improvements based on lessons learned.
  • Lead and implement change management and operational communication plans to ensure changes are well understood.
  • Identify, Assess and Manage risks involved with implementing changes and develop plans to minimize risks.
  • Managing client and vendor relationships modelling client centric approach
  • Coach and mentor business analyst and other HR staff and partners to enable a highly motivated and technically competent team.
The ideal candidate has demonstrated the ability to balance their sound knowledge of project management tools and methodologies with an understanding of and impact on the various HR functions. You have direct experience leading transformational change and operationalizing a people-centered vision. The Project Manager will have experience in:
  • Strong project management leadership skills and applying best practices including project management methods, tools, and templates to develop, monitor and track operational plans, budgets, and risks.
  • Enabling business transformation in complex organizational environment managing large-scale projects
  • Managing and implementing large technology and process optimization projects.
  • Analyzing business process, streamlining, and improving efficiency and effectiveness of HRIS and HR related systems.
  • Facilitating large teams on strategic projects
  • Mentor and teach project management practices within the HR team.
  • Knowledge of projects using agile and lean six sigma methodology is an asset.
What we are looking for The preferred candidate has had a success career in a progressive HR leadership or project management role, ideally embedded in a business technology or academic setting. You are a top performer in your current role with a proven track record of:
  • Collaborative leadership.
  • Effective execution of change management principles.
  • Efficient operational management.
  • Strong productive partnerships - resulting in satisfied stakeholders and a capacity to exceed expectations.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, or a related field
  • 10 years of project management experience particularly in HR
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices
  • Experience leading projects through the full life cycle.
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills; excellent client facing and stakeholder management experience.
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline.
