JOB OVERVIEW
The HR Advisor will be responsible for providing support and guidance to managers and employees on a range of HR issues. This role is suitable for someone who is passionate about HR, has strong Labor Relations experience and has excellent communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills. This role reports directly to Director, Human Resources at the Corporate Head Office in Winnipeg.
Essential Functions:
Onboarding
Guide new employees through initial stages of employment, orientation and training and ensure that they have smooth, positive and successful transition into their roles or relationship with the Company
Facilitate the Onboarding Program by educating new employees on company policies and procedures
Improve the onboarding package for all West Companies; collaborate with the Terminal Managers/Administration Managers
Talent Management
Align training and development strategies with the Company goals
Develop and deliver training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge
Facilitate Performance Management program in collaboration with Terminal Management to provide employee feedback and help retain talents
Develop toolkits or resources for leaders and managers in managing both union and non-union employees effectively
Employee Relations/Labour Relations
Act as the primary liaison between management and union representatives
Lead or support the negotiation of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA's)
Manage the relationship between the companies and the labor union to ensure compliance with labor laws and collective bargaining agreement
Providing counselling, guidance and support to management team in resolving labor relations issues
Assist in conducting workplace investigations and implementing Progressive Discipline Policy including assisting in drafting disciplinary action and termination letters, in consultation with Corporate HR Director
Prepare and present company positions in the grievance and arbitration process
Respond to inquiries pertaining to labor relations matters, interpretation and application of CBA
Partner with managers, Corporate HR and Payroll teams in the employee's offboarding process
Engagement/Employee Experience
Support the development and implementation of organization development initiatives and projects in partnership with the Corporate HR Director
Responsible for promoting a positive and productive work culture within the organization; in charge of planning and executing various initiatives and programs to boost employee morale, motivation and overall satisfaction
Recruitment
Responsible for creating job descriptions and posting job ads on career websites and online job boards
Use effective recruiting tools to evaluate candidates; provide a shortlist of qualified candidates to hiring managers; Conduct preliminary interviews
Coordinate background checks as requested by Hiring Managers
Compliance
Collaborate with Corporate HR Director in collecting information for any compliance activities - Employment Equity, Pay Equity Reporting, Accessibility Plan etc.
Keep abreast with any legislative requirements - provincial and federal
Interpret HR policies and provide guidance to local management to ensure consistent application
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Post secondary education in Business Administration or Human Resource Management
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in advisory role with demonstrated experience in Employee Relations and strong experience in supporting Labor Relations
Expert knowledge in computer applications with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong experience in letter writing and policy development
Strong conflict resolution skills through mediation, coaching and disciplinary guidance
Ability to travel occasionally to the many company locations throughout Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories
