We are seeking a motivated and experienced HR Generalist to join our dynamic team.

Position Overview:



As an HR Generalist at Smith and Long, you will play a key role in independently supporting a broad range of human resources functions across multiple business units. Your core responsibilities will include managing full-cycle recruitment, overseeing onboarding and offboarding processes, administering benefits programs for non-unionized staff, and serving as a key point of contact for related inquiries. You will also coordinate training and development initiatives, assist in planning and executing company events, and contribute to the design and implementation of HR strategies that support organizational growth and employee engagement.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:



Recruitment



o Manage the full-cycle recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and creating and presenting employment offers.

o Collaborate with hiring managers to address staffing needs and develop effective recruitment strategies.

Onboarding and Offboarding



o Coordinate and conduct new hire orientations and offboarding processes to ensure smooth transitions into and out of the company.

o Ensure all onboarding and offboarding documentation is accurately provided to IT, Payroll, and Operations in a timely manner.

Benefits



o Assist in administering Smith and Long's benefits programs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies and standard procedures.

o Support the annual benefits enrollment process and communicate benefit options to employees.

Training and Development



o Coordinate and facilitate training programs to enhance employee skills, performance, and career development.

o Assist in identifying training needs and support the development of professional growth plans.

o Facilitate the annual performance review process for all Smith and Long office staff.

Health and Safety



o Collaborate with the Health and Safety Manager to ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and ISO regulations.

o Assist the Health and Safety Manager in submitting WSIB reports and claims.

o Facilitate mandatory health and safety training for new hires and staff with expiring certifications.

o Upload health and safety certificates to the company's safety database.

Compliance and Policy Management



o Ensure and maintain Smith and Long's compliance with all relevant federal, provincial, and local labour laws and regulations.

o Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of HR policies and procedures.

o Maintain employee records in accordance with privacy and labour regulations.

Funding & Sponsorship Programs



o Research and apply for funding opportunities to support co-op students, apprentices, and employee scholarship or sponsorship programs.

Work Permit Applications



o Assist with processing work permit applications for employees holding temporary work visas.

Employee Satisfaction Surveys



o Conduct employee satisfaction surveys and present key findings to the Senior Leadership Team.

Other Assignments



o Prepare and issue employment verification letters upon request, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.



o Proactively identify and contribute to initiatives that enhance HR processes, systems, and efficiency.



o

Support the Event/Social Media Coordinator and Executive Assistant in planning and executing internal and external company events.

o

Perform other ad-hoc duties as required to support departmental goals and organizational needs.



Skills & Qualifications:



Education:

Post Secondary Education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

Experience:

5+ years of experience in an HR generalist role, preferably in the construction or industrial sector (Experience in unionized environments is highly preferred).*
5+ years of experience with corporate full-cycle recruitment, benefits, and training.

Skills & Competencies:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a sense of urgency. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with others; must be comfortable engaging proactively and not hesitant in social or professional interactions. Proven ability to exercise a high level of integrity and confidentiality. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint and DocuSign is a Plus.
