The Human Resource Coordinator, reporting directly to the Executive Director, is the link between Conayt Friendship Society's management and its employees. The Human Resource Coordinators work spans from providing consultation on strategic planning with the Executive Director and department managers to recruiting, interviewing and hiring new staff; supporting, coaching and mentoring managers and supervisors with human resource related matters including interpretation and administration of HR policy and procedures; employee appraisal and discipline; and employee development and improvement plans. The Human Resource Coordinator administers the Employee Group Benefit and Registered Pension plan; completes employee onboarding; and prepares and updates Human Resource policies and procedures for management review and approval.
The Human Resource Coordinators services include:
Implementing and revising a company's compensation program
Creating and revising job descriptions
Conducting annual salary surveys and reviews to keep the organization pay scales current
Developing, analyzing, and updating the organization chart
Developing, analyzing and updating the company's evaluation program
Developing, revising, and recommending personnel policies and procedures
Maintaining affirmative action programs
Overseeing recruitment efforts for all personnel, including writing and placing job ads
Conducting new employee orientations and employee relations counseling
Overseeing exit interviews
Maintaining department records and reports
Participating in administrative and other department staff meetings as needed
Maintaining company directory and other organizational charts
Recommending new policies, approaches, and procedures
Administer employee benefit program including obtaining quotations from suppliers; negotiating terms; and assisting employees with benefit claims
May assist department managers and/or Joint Health and Safety Committee, and/or the Safety Coordinator with development and management of Occupational Health and Safety Programs for Conayt Friendship Society
Coordinate staff development training activities
Provide human resource management support, coaching and mentoring to department managers including assisting with the application of disciplinary policy, vacation and leave policies, and employee relations
Assist managers with the development of employee workplans and performance improvement plans
Monitor relevant labour codes and legislation for updates, make recommendations for changes to Conayt Friendship Society's Human Resource Policy to ensure compliance with new and/or updated codes and regulations
Works with the Society's HR consultants to assist in investigations
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
5-7 years experience in a similar position
Diploma in Business Management / Human Resource Management Major; or equivalent education and training
Human Resources Designation an asset
Experience in a First Nations environment,
Good Supervisory skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent analytical and organizational skills to achieve desired results
Diplomacy, tact and confidentiality in dealing with a variety of people
Possess strong computer skills using MS Office software
Ability to work in a team orientated environment
Flexibility is necessary to adapt to changing work priorities
Excellent judgement and problem-solving skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Those normally associated with a typical office environment. Continuous visual concentration on computer/laptop and/or calculator.
Long periods of sitting.
