Right now and over the coming months Personal Care Homes across our province require additional staffing to help ensure that our spouses, parents, grandparents, friends and neighbours continue to receive the best possible health care during these unprecedented times.

Position Overview

  • Able to carry out duties in a professional manner, demonstrating good safety habits, teamwork and a cooperative attitude, in compliance with confidentiality requirements of the Personal Care Home and its residents.
  • Performs daily cleaning duties throughout the facility according to established routines and procedures.
  • Uses cleaning equipment such as mops, buckets, cleaning solutions, vacuum cleaner, floor machine, floors polishers, burnishers and all equipment required for the upkeep of the facility.
  • Performs specialized cleaning duties when necessary to facilitate resident admissions and transfers or similar occurrences according to established routines and procedures.
  • Performs cleaning duties for specialized equipment and areas, such as but not limited to, kitchen ventilation hoods, kitchen floors according to established routines and procedures.
  • Empties waste receptacles, and washes same.
  • Disposes of garbage.
  • Required to move furniture to facilitate proper cleaning.
  • May be required to perform other duties and functions not exceeding above stated skills and capabilities.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Successful completion of Grade 10 education is required.
  • One (1) year current Housekeeping experience in a hospital or long-term care setting (or commercial cleaning experience with similar responsibilities) preferred.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS applicable to Housekeeping and knowledge of departmental cleaning products.
  • Ability to understand and accurately follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Demonstrated ability within the housekeeping department to maintain high work performance standards.
  • Physical ability to tolerate constant standing, walking, bending and lifting, as well as physical ability to perform heavy manual work.
  • Effective interpersonal skills required.
The Collective Agreement this position is covered under, is identified by the Union noted above. As a result of The Health Sector Bargaining Unit Review Act, the bargaining agent for this position may differ from the Union identified.
