Working both independently and as a member of a team, the housekeeper and building services support role is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment within a community health centre. This role is critical to infection prevention and control (IPAC), client and staff safety, and enhanced prevention, ensuring compliance with healthcare cleaning standards, organizational policies, and public health guidance. Service Responsibilities:
Clean and disinfect client waiting areas, offices, hallways, railings, door handles, restrooms, and common spaces.
Performs routine and enhanced cleaning and disinfection in accordance with Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) policies and procedures. Cleaning in high-touch areas and clinical spaces following infection control protocols, including exam tables, scales, counter tops.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize floors using approved disinfectants, according to both need and schedule.
Empty trash and biohazard waste containers; replace liners as required. Safely handles, segregates, and disposes of biohazard waste in accordance with IPAC policies and standards.
Restock restroom and hand hygiene supplies (soap, sanitizer, paper towels, toilet tissue).
Clean glass surfaces, windows, and partitions.
Follows approved cleaning and disinfection protocols for clinical and non-clinical areas, including appropriate product selection, dilution, dwell time, and application.
Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) correctly and consistently, in accordance with IPAC and Occupational Health & Safety requirements.
Immediately reports maintenance issues, infection control concerns, spills, exposure incidents, or safety to the Office Manager or designate.
Operate cleaning equipment and handle chemicals according to healthcare standards.
Follow the "CHCN Janitorial Schedule of Care".
Prevents cross-contamination by following correct cleaning sequences and equipment use.
Support staff and teams with room set up and take down of tables and chairs, when needed
Support staff and teams with meeting set up and preparation, when needed
Organizational Safety Responsibilities
Works in compliance with Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), Occupational Health and Safety, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) policies.
Participates in IPAC related training and education as required.
Participates as a member of the IPAC committee.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in medical or healthcare cleaning preferred.
Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) practices and safe handling of biohazard materials.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Physical stamina for repetitive tasks
Physical ability to lift and move items up to [40-45 lbs]. NIOSH Recommended Weight Limit
Strong attention to detail and reliability.
Hours of work: late afternoon/evening
