Agency Overview:




Halton Women's Place is the only Safe Shelter program in the Halton Region. We provide a safe haven, information, education, and counselling, to support women and children to live a life free from violence. We operate two emergency safe shelters, as well as community outreach and public education program. Our safe shelter facilities operate on a 24/7 basis.

Position Overview:




The House Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the shelter environment and supports all required HWP IPAC protocols, from implementation to day-to-day operations. The House Maintenance Worker will also oversee the in-shelter IPAC and storage aspects of receiving and processing in-kind donations. Additional duties aside from the general cleaning and maintenance of the facility, include the following:

Duties and Responsibilities:



IPAC Coordination



In consultation with the Joint Health and Safety Committee and the Safe Shelter Services Manager, conducts monthly IPAC audits in their designated shelter, and then collaboratively addresses any areas that require improvement with the Safe Shelter Services Manager. Supports the implementation of any Public Health or MCCSS IPAC guidelines or directives in their designated safe shelter facility Supports the storage and inventory tracking of all PPE, cleaning, and disinfecting products and equipment.

Donation Organization



Responsible for overseeing in-kind donations in accordance with IPAC guidelines and storage of items within their designated safe shelter. Disinfects and/or quarantines in-kind donations as per prescribed policies and protocols. Stores and organizes in-kind donations in approved shelter storage areas.

Environmental Services



Adheres to the developed cleaning and disinfecting scheduled as identified by HWP, including daily, weekly and monthly tasks. With approval from the Safe Shelter Services Manager, oversees the stocking, storage, and ordering of cleaning and disinfecting products and equipment for their designated shelter. Reports all environmental safety hazards or concerns to their direct Supervisor, and where appropriate, the JHSC. Participates in weekly health and safety reviews of client rooms and supports the resolution of any identified hazards or issues. Maintains all room linens, towels, and furniture for client rooms, and notifies the Safe Shelter Services Manager of any items that are required to be ordered. Cleans and disinfects client rooms and bathrooms upon departure and prepares the rooms for new intakes. Contributes to the safety and security of the safe shelter facility by following all HWP safety and security protocols and immediately identifying and reporting potential breaches or safety concerns

Other Duties as Assigned



Participation on agency committees. Attendance at mandatory all-staff, department, and team meetings, occasionally outside of regular hours of work Ensures adherence to all Policies and Procedures. Assists with other duties as required, from time to time, aiding with the efficient operation of the organization.

Qualifications:




Experience

At least two years' experience working in a similar role in a congregate living setting is considered an asset. Shelter or VAW experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Comprehensive IPAC training is required. Ability to be self-directed and maintain an efficient work pace independently and without direct supervision Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to work with a variety of cleaning products and tools. Confident decision-maker and enthusiastic team player. Committed to upholding the organization's mission, vision, and values. Enthusiastic team player, willing to step outside the role to be helpful to clients and teammates Sensitive, compassionate, and kind disposition towards women and children living in shelter Strong organizational and time management skills. Interpersonal effectiveness skills.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:



Clear Police Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector, is required to secure and maintain employment. Verification of COVID vaccinations as mandated by the Ministry, is required to secure, and maintain employment. TB test one and two is required to secure and maintain employment. Current Standard First Aid and CPR/AED level C
