The opportunity:

CBC Toronto 's flagship live weekday morning show, Metro Morning, is searching for its next host. Having served audiences for 50 years, the show is woven into the ever growing fabric of the GTA.
And so are you.
You are deeply invested in the GTA and are committed to ensuring Metro Morning is the forum for the conversations essential to life in the city. Be that safety on the TTC, how diaspora communities are reacting to political upheaval at home, or a budget shortfall, you know Metro Morning plays a vital role in our city.
Your role is clear: you hold those in power to account. You examine all situations from a variety of viewpoints, and listen deeply. You know that people's need for information is at its greatest when they first wake and you're there to help people plan for the hours, the days and the weeks ahead.
Toronto's been called a city of villages. You understand what that means and you transport audiences to the diverse communities that make the city - and Peel, York and Durham - a truly unique place in the world. You know how to help bring guests' stories to life.
You are a smart and seasoned journalist with a competitive spirit. You love the GTA and you are deeply curious about it and the people who call it home. You connect easily with every guest on the program -- be they a grieving parent or the Mayor.
You thrive in a team environment and love to experiment with new ways to meet audience needs and CBC News goals. You know that audience consumption trends change and are keen to experiment with new ways of sharing Metro Morning content on visual and emerging platforms. You also embrace change and are a willing leader in pushing yourself and your team to adapt and evolve in keeping with changing audience needs.
You are constantly pushing yourself and the team to deliver the most compelling live local morning daily news and current affairs morning programming in the GTA. You are willing and capable of coaching those who are still developing. You uphold the responsibility you have to deliver on the mission of CBC Toronto, which is to be there for people in the GTA when they need us.
Key Tasks:Works hand in glove with the Senior Producer and the team to plan the best possible programming for each weekday morning Pitches program ideas, suggests and lines up guests or interviewees, prepares background notes and questions, interviews on or off air, and provides narration and linking continuity between program segments. Hosts live breaking news specials / remote shows as needed. Keen to shape special programming and/or segments of the daily show. At ease bantering with program participants such as on-air colleagues, guests and interviewees, members of the audience and phone-in callers, as required. Works to maintain your subject matter expertise in fields relevant to the focus of the program(s). Participates in public and/or community relations activities as appropriate, to promote the program(s) and/or the Corporation. Gathers audio and visual material in the field and packages it to share with the audience on any required platforms.

As required, performs the following tasks:Act as master of ceremonies, narrator or interviewer. Voice continuity for programs. Conduct research using a variety of sources. Edit program material.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:A university degree in a field relevant to the position or a combination of education and work experience relevant to the position. Proven journalism skills, strong news judgment, excellent general knowledge. Strong live on-air performance and excellent interview skills on a range of topics and themes, all kept to time. A strong love and understanding of Toronto, including the functions of all three levels of government. Deep knowledge of and connection to the equity-seeking communities across Toronto. Innovative with programming and ideas. Curious, incisive and critical thinker. A track record of talking to principal characters in stories that matter to the audience. Engaging and intelligent on-air presence, showing a wide emotional range. Demonstrated ability to lead teams. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong writing skills that elevate live programming. A thorough understanding of and experience with social media tools. Sense of humour. A broad range of interests. Ability to give and receive feedback within the context of a dynamic team. Strong news judgment and story sense. Ability to collaborate with the Senior Producer and the show Director to ensure that the show meets its mandate.
