Temporary assignment - approximately 14 weeks

POSITION SUMMARY
The Hospital Support Aide (HSA) provides non-care related supports to the hospital in response to COVID-19. This role will
support various activities as part of this response. Activities could be within different hospital
environments, including, but not limited to, inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and other operating
units within the hospital. This role is helping hospitals achieve a safe and secure
environment for patients, families, caregivers, and staff together during the pandemic. All duties are to
be performed in accordance with the hospital\xe2\x80\x99s mission, vision, and values, while adhering to any
policies, procedures, and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent required
  • Must have good judgement and interpersonal skills
  • Must be sensitive and empathetic to the needs of the patients
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, visitor, and others
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, family members, visitors, staff, and volunteers in a courteous and professional manner
  • Greets patients in a positive and supportive manner requesting if they need assistance of any kind
  • Acts as a runner within the hospital
  • Understands the culture of, and roles in hospital settings
  • Supports IPAC process and procedures
  • Understands how to safely support patients living with disabilities, including, but not limited to mobility issues, visual deficits, etc.
  • Provide routine tasks that support patients with their daily activities
  • Assists at mealtimes and during nutritional breaks by helping with set up and delivery of the trays
  • Supports patients in managing their personal belongings
  • Assists the unit with the coordination of virtual family visits i.e., coordinating times and setting up zoom calls, etc. to alleviate the volume of calls to the units by family members
  • Assists patients with devices (cell phones/tablets) to enable patients to communicate with their families and friends
  • Assists the care team in facilitating and monitoring visitors (essential care providers)
  • Provides companionship to patients
  • Communicates safety, patient and environmental concerns related concerns with supervisor
  • Retrieves equipment and restocks unit supplies
  • Completing assigned clerical/data entry/administrative duties, as appropriate
  • Performs other related duties as required
