We are seeking an energetic and outgoing Horticulture Assistant to join our team. The Horticulture Assistant is part of the Turfcare Management Team of the Club and assists in overseeing all Landscape Management of The Glencoe Golf and Country Club. As the Horticulture Assistant, you will aid the Horticulturalist in organizing and conducting highly skilled landscape maintenance and in planning and directing projects. You will bring a strong commitment to team development, encouraging Team Leads, Interns, and hourly staff to deliver exceptional environments and experiences to membership.

Responsibilities:



Assist with designing, planting and establishing annuals in landscape beds and planters Demonstrate integrity while leading, mentoring, and training a dedicated team to deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Support the planning and execution of special projects like (capital enhancements, new landscape installations, drainage, rain gardens, etc) Facilitate course clean-up and other detailed work such as raking, weeding, edging, debris removal, and ornamental feature maintenance with hand tools and small equipment Perform maintenance, pest management, and harvest related tasks for fruit and vegetable production Safely operate various equipment (pedestrian and ride-on type mowers, skid-steer, tractors) Support all aspects of year-round beekeeping, including hive maintenance, seasonal care, and honey extraction Conduct small scale structural pruning on ornamental trees Facilitate the maintenance task list and equipment set up on an ongoing basis Execute greenhouse operations including overwintering and seeding and help with seasonal indoor/outdoor decor changes.

Qualifications:



Possess a Prairie Horticulture Certificate, Landscape Horticulturalist Apprenticeship, Horticulture Technologist Diploma, or other related education A minimum of 2 years' experience in golf horticulture or landscape management Must have a positive attitude and the ability to work well individually and collaboratively as a part of a diverse team Have a willingness to learn new skills and methods and lead team members through effective training Adaptability to a dynamic work environment and ability to maintain high standards of work in a fast-paced outdoor environment while demonstrating company values Effective written and spoken communication skills for documenting cultural practices and IPM's Willingness to work outdoors even in adverse weather conditions Physical ability to lift 20-40lbs and perform repetitive outdoor tasks (raking, weeding, shoveling, walking) Ability to reliably work early mornings when required Valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation as there is no public transportation available to our location

Additional Details:



This is a Full-Time position that reports to the Horticulturalist. The successful candidate must have availability during the day and may be required to work a variety of shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays, so a flexible schedule is required.
