HPP Outreach Worker connects to people who are homeless or At Risk of Homelessness. Outreach services provided by the Kate Booth House in communities across the province, directly engage who are homeless or At Risk of Homelessness by assessing Clients' needs, assisting with their personal goals, and connecting individuals and families with stable accommodation and appropriate services.

HOURS:

  • Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Schedule appointment with resident to introduce residents to the second stage program
  • Provide residents with an introductory package, which explains the purpose of the second stage program
  • Provide residents at Esther Place information on activities in the community
  • Make referrals for residents upon request, to other community groups or churches
  • Follow up of referrals from the following groups;
  • People leaving the corrections and hospital systems
  • Youth, including those leaving the care system; or
  • People of Aboriginal descent.
  • Completing an intake and assessment of each Client;
  • Engaging visibly homeless Clients and hidden Homeless and those At Risk of Homelessness;
  • Developing a Case Plan for all Clients;
  • Referring Clients to appropriate housing options;
  • Referring Clients to Income Assistance, using the Homeless Application Protocol, where appropriate;
  • Referring Clients to Support Services; and where appropriate, accompanying clients to appointments.
  • Where Clients are working towards being, or are currently placed as tenants, to help them maintain their housing and their ability to live independently, including:
  • Providing Clients with Rental Supplements
  • Providing tenancy support and skills training.
  • Providing follow up and ongoing support to tenants, as appropriate.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with landlords providing housing to Clients; and
  • Providing education and resources to landlords to support and maintain Client tenancies, where appropriate.
  • Able to involve linkages and partnerships with other local service providers to ensure optimal service delivery to Clients, including participation in local and regional initiatives to improve the quality of services to people who are homeless or At Risk of Homelessness.
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A certificate, diploma, or degree in social services, or equivalent training in a related field.
  • A valid First Aid Certificate is required
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is an asset
Experience:
  • Minimum of two years working with victims of domestic violence.
  • Experience in assisting professionals to intervene safely with domestic violence.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
  • Relevant understanding of the situation of women who have experienced violence in their intimate relationships, and their children.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation/training skills; ability assimilate information and communicate with various constituents.
  • Comfort in bridging and collaborating with different agencies (e.g. Multicultural), ministry (e.g. MHSD) and lawyers.
  • Training in Crisis and Skills that focuses on the prevention of homelessness.
  • Understanding of the needs of victims of absolute homelessness and Domestic Violence
  • Understanding of the Cycle of Violence
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Must be comfortable in using the computer and other database programs.
  • Valid BC driver's license and access to a vehicle while on shift is required (driver's abstract required)
  • Criminal Record Check for working with children and/or vulnerable adults
  • First Aid and CPR certificate Level C.
  • Food Safe Level 1 certificate
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
  • Knowledge in HIFIS
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people (e.g. race, ethnicity, age, class, sexual preference).
  • Must have good conflict resolution skills.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
