Job Description

Understanding of and passionate about the mission, vision and values of Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce (HFHGB), the Homebuilding Services Manager is responsible for providing overall management of new home construction and critical home repair projects from start to finish to ensure they are completed on time, on budget, in compliance with building codes, safety regulations and to HFHGB's quality standards.

As a member of the Management Team, the Homebuilding Services Manager fulfils the duties of a constructor as stated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) providing direction to supervisors, apprentices, labourers, volunteers and sub-contractors.



Areas of Responsibilities



Plan, organize, lead, and evaluate residential building or renovation projects from start to finish ensuring house design and detailed features list is based on the needs of applicants/clients and in accordance with building codes and HFHGB's House Design Guidelines; tasks include:

- preparing construction schedules and monitor progress

- hiring and coordinating trade subcontractors and ensure each has a WSIB Clearance Certificate

Fulfil the duties of a Constructor as stated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) ensuring that the measures and procedures prescribed by the Act and its regulations are carried out at each project

In consultation with the Executive Director and Business Manager prepare project budget estimates and contracts for clients

Assist with acquiring Gift-in-Kind building materials (Habitat Canada and locally) and donated services

Support land acquisition and development processes (i.e. rezoning, remediation, site plan approval and building permits) in cooperation with the Management Team

Facilitate and model a positive, team-oriented environment that is mission focused and fosters a welcoming and inclusive culture for prospective homeowners and volunteers

Lead regular construction team meetings and facilitate clear communication with workers

Required Education, Skills, Knowledge and Experience



Meet the requirements of a constructor in Ontario understanding the duties required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), which primarily involve ensuring the project's overall safety and compliance with all regulations of OHSA

Secondary School diploma or equivalent and certified training related to residential construction

Superior leadership and organizational (project management) skills

Thorough knowledge and solid understanding of new home construction, building codes and construction best practices

Ability to work with skilled and unskilled volunteers, and diverse age groups

Strong desire to train, coach and supervise apprentices, volunteers of all ages and skill levels

Positive interpersonal, communication and time management skills

Ability to multi task with changing priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Pleasant, ethical and professional conduct

Minimum 5 years' construction experience in residential construction methods supervising medium sized projects (with a value of $300K or more) involving multiple stakeholders

Experience working (employed or volunteer) with a non-profit, charitable organization an asset

Requirements



Work schedule is a flexible 44 hours per week, Monday to Friday with some weekends and evenings

The work location is Owen Sound with regular travel to Build sites

Valid driver's license
