Home Share Provider Needed C.f

Langford, BC, CA, Canada

Job Description

Seeking a Home Share Provider

Location: Langford, BC, Canada

About this program

Community Living Victoria (CLV) is the largest non-profit community living service provider on Vancouver Island and provides a range of support services to children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.

HS (Home Share) enables adults with intellectual disabilities to choose an environment that addresses their specific needs and desires. Each HS arrangement varies depending on the unique needs and lifestyle preferences of the individual. HS increases the opportunity for people to establish natural relationships and social connections within their community. Individuals might live with a family, roommate, couple, or in their own suite within a family home.

About the individual:

C is an outgoing, sociable, male in his mid 30's who has Down syndrome. C loves to connect with his community and spend time with his family and friends. He enjoys hockey, and special O sports. He also enjoys working part time throughout the week days, and usually once on the weekend. He often calls himself a 'trickster' and finds himself quite funny. He enjoys his 'man cave' where he enjoys playing his drums, and boxing. C also loves animals. C's parents live out of town but are as supportive and involved in C's life as possible. They frequently come to visit C, and during these times, the Home share provider would have respite provided.

What are C's support needs:

For several years, C has been living on his own in a stand alone home. The time has now come, where C and his family feel having a built in support network would be best for his overall wellbeing. Supporting C and his Mental Health is a significant skill required. Having someone with him in the evenings is important. This is when his feeling of loneliness creeps in and exaggerates his anxiety and depressive symptoms. This does not require you to be beside C at all times, but the reassurance of someone being in close proximity during evenings and sleeping hours will be a positive support for C.

Ideal Candidate: Do you have these skills and qualities?

You enjoy being social and getting out in community Strong knowledge of depression and anxiety; a solid understanding of mental health You enjoy the outdoors, working out, hiking and walking. Ability to gently prompt and being a part of daily living activities in and out of residence. Ability to set healthy boundaries with individual. Being welcoming and having C be a part of your home; not just a guest.
