Support Home Share - Contract
This Opportunity
We are seeking Home Share Contractors to share their home and provide support and mentorship to individuals with varying abilities. As a Roommate Companion, you will provide various supports within the home and community to your roommate, fostering skill development, self-advocacy, and relationship building.
The ideal candidate will be self-directed, have initiative and be detail-oriented while remaining calm, supportive and welcoming. They will have experience with challenging situations or behaviours. They will foster personal growth to learn with the individual they're supporting.
This is a contracted position. Those hired into Home Share Providers contracts are not employees of SACLA.

As a Home Share Provider, you will assist individuals with developmental disabilities in YOUR homes, to live in the community as independently as possible. You will support and actively encourage the individuals to live in accordance with their own beliefs, desires and choices.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
- developing creative and innovative ways to support people to reach their goals and dreams
- ensuring people are supported to be active participants rather than passive observers in all aspects of their lives
- medication administration
- personal care as required
- emotional support
- household maintenance
- recreation & leisure activities
- assistance with life skills
- assistance with appointments
- attendance to internal/external meetings
- objective, concise documentation
- training as required
Ideal Candidate
ESSENTIAL QUALITIES
1. An understanding that your role is to offer support and guidance, not direction and behavior modification.
2. A desire to actively assist the people supported by Southern Alberta Community Living Association to live in accordance with their own beliefs, desires and choices.
3. A belief that people with developmental disabilities can live self-determined lives in the community surrounded by friends and family.
4. An understanding that in order to function effectively as a member of a team, you must take responsibility for your own actions, striving to communicate effectively with the people you support, your co-workers and supervisors.
5. A willingness to participate in educational opportunities that promote professional growth.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
1. One to two years' experience in providing support to people with developmental disabilities beneficial. Experience gained in other disciplines providing support to people without developmental disabilities will be considered.
2. Education in the humanities field is an asset, but not essential.
Conditions of Employment
Criminal Record Check. (Completed within the past 6 months: All persons 18 years of age, who live in the home must provide a current, clear Criminal Record Check inclusive of a check relating to the Vulnerable Sector. (Completed within past 6 months)
2. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle with $2,000,000 public liability
3. Valid Emergency First Aid CPR A & AED Certificate
5. Proof of $2,000,000 of home liability insurance.
