Home Share Caregiver for Supported Individual with Diverse Abilities

:

MACL is seeking a compassionate, experienced and inclusive caregiver to support an adult with diverse abilities through a Home Share arrangement in Mission, BC. This contracted role involves welcoming the individual into your home and providing daily support that fosters independence, emotional well-being, and community inclusion. The ideal candidate is patient, attentive, and experienced in delivering both physical and emotional care in a home and community setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide daily care and supervision to an individual with diverse abilities Support with personal care, medication administration, and daily routines o Monitor and manage diabetes, including insulin care:
Regularly check blood glucose levels using appropriate tools (e.g., glucometer, Dexcom), recognize signs and symptoms of high or low blood sugar, and respond promptly to fluctuations. Monitor insulin usage according to the individual's care plan and medical instructions, ensuring safe and accurate support. Encourage and support healthy lifestyle choices such as meal planning, carbohydrate counting, and physical activity to help maintain stable blood sugar levels. Communicate any concerns or irregularities with the healthcare team and document all diabetes-related care accurately.

Respond to and manage seizures appropriately:
Recognize and respond to signs of seizure activity in a calm and timely manner, following individual support plans and established medical or safety protocols. Provide immediate assistance to ensure the individual's safety, monitor their condition during and after the seizure, document the incident accurately, and communicate with healthcare professionals, supervisors, and family or caregivers as required. Maintain awareness of seizure triggers and implement proactive strategies to reduce risk and promote well-being.

Implement mental health and behavioural support strategies Foster independence, community involvement, and quality of life Communicate effectively with family, health professionals, and support team

Qualifications:

Experience supporting individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities Skills in diabetes management and seizure response required Mental health and behavioural support experience is an asset Valid First Aid/CPR certification Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required:
A valid driver's license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle are required to travel to and from individuals' programs, attend community activities and appointments, provide transportation for individuals as needed, and complete other job-related duties.

Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening required Must have suitable living space available:
Applicants must have a private, safe, and comfortable living space within their home - such as a self-contained suite or an inclusive bedroom - for a supported individual to reside. The space should meet community care standards and provide a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment that supports the individual's privacy, independence, and well-being.

Compensation:

$3,801.13/month
(Includes the individual's contribution for room & board)
