Position Overview

Under the direction of the Resource Coordinator - Home Care, the Home Care Attendant (HCA) functions as a member of the Home Care team and is responsible for the provision of personal care and home support services to an individual or group of home care clients as assigned. As identified by an established plan of care, the HCA provides paraprofessional services to assist frail, physically disabled, and/or mentally challenged clients of all ages to remain in their own homes as long as safely possible.


The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Sante Sud.

Sous la direction du Coordonnateur des ressources - Soins a domicile, l'Aide - Soins a domicile agit en tant que membre de l'equipe de soins personnels a domicile et est charge(e) de fournir des soins personnels et des services de soutien a domicile a un ou plusieurs clients, selon le cas. Conformement a un plan de soins etabli, l'Aide - Soins a domicile fourni des services paraprofessionnels pour aider les clients freles, les personnes en situation de handicap physique et/ou mental de tous ages a rester chez eux aussi longtemps qu'ils peuvent le faire en toute securite.


Le ou la titulaire du poste beneficie d'un niveau d'initiative approprie et fait preuve d'un jugement independant pour determiner les priorites de travail, les methodes de travail a utiliser et les mesures a adopter pour traiter les questions inhabituelles. Les fonctions du poste sont exercees d'une maniere conforme a la vision, a la mission, aux valeurs et aux politiques de Southern Health-Sante Sud.

Experience

Previous experience working with the elderly or disabled in a community setting is preferred. Previous experience working in a home care program is an asset.

Experience:

Experience de travail en milieu communautaire aupres de personnes agees ou handicapees est preferable. Experience de travail dans un programme de soins a domicile est consideree un atout.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Grade 12 education required. Home Care Attendant Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate with community component from a recognized post-secondary institute.

Formation (degre/diplome/certificat):

Diplome de 12e annee requis. Certificat d'aide aux soins personnels a domicile ou certificat d'aide en soins de sante avec volet communautaire decerne par un etablissement postsecondaire reconnu.

Proficiency of both official languages is essential (English/French). Knowledge of sanitary food handling principles and procedures. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills. Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required. Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums. Good work and attendance record.

Qualifications et competences:

Competences dans les deux langues officielles (francais et anglais) est essentielle. Connaissance et comprehension des pratiques hygieniques et la manipulation des aliments. Capacite averee a travailler de facon autonome et au sein d'une equipe. Capacite averee d'appliquer la pensee critique. Capacite requise a respecter et a promouvoir une population culturellement diversifiee etant donne la diversite culturelle de notre region. Capacite demontree a respecter la confidentialite de l'information, qu'elle soit dans des documents papier, electroniques ou sous toutes autres formes. Bons antecedents de travail et d'assiduite.

Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job. No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions. May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary. May be required to travel to other regional facilities if required by the duties of the position.
