Role Overview
As a Care Aide with Pacific Homecare in the Okanagan, you will play a vital role in helping our clients live with dignity, independence and comfort in their own homes. You will become a trusted part of the client's daily routine: assisting with personal care, household support, companionship, and remaining vigilant to changes in wellbeing.
This role is ideal for someone who is compassionate, reliable, and takes pride in making a meaningful difference in someone's life. You will work directly with clients and families, follow individualized care plans, document your work, and collaborate with our care team.
Compensation
Hourly Rate:
$23.00 - $25.75 per hour (based on experience, certification, and shift assignment) Premiums may apply for evening/weekend shifts, overnight assignments or specialized care.
Key Responsibilities Personal & Direct Care
Provide respectful assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): bathing, grooming, dressing, oral hygiene, toileting/continence assistance, mobility support (walking, transfers, repositioning)
Encourage and support clients' independence while ensuring safety in movement, transfers or use of assistive devices
Assist with meal-feeding or hydration support if required
Home & Household Support
Perform Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs): light housekeeping (laundry, dishes, tidying), linen changes, maintaining safe and comfortable home environment
Grocery shopping, preparing meals consistent with dietary needs/preferences, and running errands or accompaniment to appointments or social outings
Conduct fall-prevention checks, safety checks, and help maintain environmental safety for clients
Companionship & Engagement
Offer companionship to clients who may experience isolation--chatting, reading, playing games, supporting hobbies, being present and attentive
Accompany clients on walks, outings, errands, appointments to help them stay connected with community and social life
Support emotional wellbeing by building trust and encouraging clients' autonomy and involvement in daily choices
Work from the client's personalized care plan created by Pacific Homecare; follow tasks and interventions as outlined in the plan
Observe and promptly report changes in client's physical, cognitive or emotional condition to the Care Coordinator
Maintain accurate, timely and legible documentation of care provided, incidents, observations and client feedback
Communicate clearly and respectfully with the client, their family, and Pacific Homecare team members
Professionalism, Safety & Compliance
Follow safe-handling, infection-control and mobility-aid protocols; use assistive devices and equipment safely
Maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with provincial privacy legislation
Travel between client homes across the Okanagan as required (vehicle needed) and arrive punctually, prepared for shift
Uphold Pacific Homecare's standards for reliability, respect, integrity and service quality
Qualifications & Requirements
Mandatory:
Certificate as a Health Care Aide (HCA), or equivalent formal caregiver training recognized in BC
Minimum of 1 year of recent home-care or facility-based client-care experience preferred
Valid Class 5 driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle to travel across the Okanagan
Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) and recent TB screening as per agency policy
Strong English communication skills (both verbal and written)
Demonstrated compassion, reliability and ability to build rapport with clients and families
Preferred:
Certification in First Aid & CPR
Experience working with older adults, dementia, palliative care, or clients with mobility limitations
Familiarity with safe body-mechanics, client transfers, mobility-aid use
Bilingual/multilingual capability (especially Punjabi, Tagalog, French) is an asset
Ability to adapt to flexible hours, including weekend or overnight shifts, as required
Physical Demands:
Must be comfortable assisting clients with mobility, transfers, repositioning and may involve standing, bending, lifting or supporting clients
Able to work within varying home environments and adapt to changing client needs

Working Conditions & Schedule
Location: In-home care within the Okanagan Valley (Kelowna, West Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton, etc)
Shift variety: mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and some overnight options depending on client assignment
Travel required between clients, mileage reimbursement where applicable
Orientation/training provided; you will receive support from the Pacific Homecare team including clinical oversight and regular check-ins
PPE and infection-control supplies provided; you will adhere to health and safety protocols
