Highway Maintenance Specialized Crew Foreperson

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Highway Maintenance Foreperson to lead our Specialized Crew. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing the successful execution of the CDMC Capital Program, along with managing change orders and leveraged work. You will also play a critical role in emergency response and planned repairs, including guide rail and end treatment repairs, roadway feature maintenance, and winter operations. Reporting to the Project/Operations Manager, you will ensure the safety of your crew and the public, while driving productivity and achieving daily milestones.

Key Responsibilities



Familiarize yourself with performance requirements in the Contractor Directed Maintenance Contract (CDMC). Assist the Project/Operations Manager to plan the work sequence using specifications, drawings and site conditions for effective safety-conscious production. Organize from start to completion the delivery of change order work and in scope capital items as assigned. Instruct all job personnel in a clear, concise manner on all production and safety aspects of the job when directing work tasks. Ensure that next day requirements for labour, equipment and supplies are ordered and communicated to the Project/Operations Manager. Prepare and operate light and heavy maintenance equipment such as excavators, patrol trucks, crash trucks, loaders, plows, combinations/spreaders, tractors, weed eaters, lawn mowers, chainsaws etc. Maintain and update daily work records including material, equipment, and labour tracking. Identify and maintain Maintenance deficiencies list. Monitor operations, including subcontracted work within assigned patrol area. Time entry for staff as required daily as well as weekly work plan submitted to the operations manager Completion of utility locates as required to perform work safely. Initiate and review tailgate talks with staff on a regular interval to ensure awareness of safe operating policies and best practices. Assist in training and mentoring staff by utilizing OPSD standards and maintenance best practices, etc. Performing required preventative and routine equipment maintenance, which includes but is not limited to: cleaning/washing the interior and exterior of equipment, check fluid levels, assisting in changing plow blades, minor equipment repairs, greasing equipment and refueling equipment after use. Carrying-out all routine/non-routine highway maintenance activities, facility maintenance and yard maintenance, such as guidepost and sign installations, pothole filling, washout repairs, debris pick up, picnic sites and layby, snow removal and maintenance. Conduct yourself in a professional and mature manner. All other duties as assigned by management.

Position Requirements



Maintain a valid license. Preference will be given to applicants with DZ license. OTM Book 7 Training for traffic control considered an asset. Strong work ethic and the ability to lead and direct other staff. Strong organizational skills with clear communication abilities. Helpful, friendly, and courteous with the public, client, regulatory agencies, and peers. Strong knowledge of highway maintenance is an asset. Computer literate, MS Outlook, Excel, and Microsoft word. Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques. Experience in the operation of tools and equipment such as excavator, loader, backhoe, skid steer, shoulder spreader, etc. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Able to work with little supervision, be self-directed and able to problem solve. Able to stand for long periods, lift 50 lbs., carry, bend, reach and climb.

Work Conditions:



Indoor and outdoor environments in various weather conditions. Flexible with work hours as there will be shiftwork, including weekends and nights. based on the assigned shift and or rotation. Must be available to be on call regularly.
