Job Description







Reporting through the Manager, Campus Store, the primary responsibilities of the Heritage Tour Guide is to provide efficient and friendly customer service to support the delivery of a meaningful and captivating interpretative tour about the history of Hatley Park National Historic Site and Royal Roads University. The incumbent will commit to memory core messaging that emphasizes important historical information and creates a dynamic and engaging storyline connecting on a personal level with customers. Excellent customer service is essential to creating a welcoming experience for visitors, which requires the ability to listen to the interests and adjust the tour to satisfy the diverse customer base.

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of two years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working in customer service supporting diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with responsibility for opening and closing procedures
  • Ability to operate POS system with accurate financial balancing
  • A caring, welcoming attitude towards visitors and a genuine interest in history
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and customer management techniques
  • Motivated, flexible and enjoys dynamic, multi-task work environment with interruptions
  • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds and carry goods to restock shelves
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts, raising issues to management when outside scope of responsibility
Additional and desirable assets:
  • Experience with any of the following; tour guiding; academic institutions; museums.


Additional Information
This is a seasonal position working approximately 25 hours per week to support a 7-day week operation from May until September. The incumbent should have flexibility to work weekends. The hourly rate is $22.94. Due to its limited term nature, this position is not eligible for enrolment in the University\xe2\x80\x99s Benefits Plan, but you will be provided with 4% in lieu of vacation.
