Scope



Located on the unceded and ancestral lands of the Salish peoples, including the Katzie, Kwantlen, and Semiahmoo Nations, the City of Surrey is a globally recognized leader in building vibrant, sustainable communities.

The City of Surrey 's Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative Heritage Program Supervisor (CSA 5) at the Historic Stewart Farm, a vibrant heritage site located within Elgin Heritage Park, along the Nicomekl River. This Regular Part-Time position reports to the Coordinator of Heritage Programs and is an integral part of the team that delivers high quality educational programming, special events, and a one-of-a-kind heritage experience.

Responsibilities



Plan and deliver curriculum-based school programming;

Support annual planning and lead the delivery of services, including educational programs, public programs, special events, day camps, and outreach initiatives;

Write copy for registered programs and related initiatives;

Support visitor experience;

Oversee the acquisition and use of the Teaching Collection and Costume Collection;

Liaise with City colleagues regarding other curriculum-based programs;

Supervise and schedule staff, instructors, and volunteers;

Monitor revenues and expenses within assigned budgets;

Maintain and update program data in the PRC Management System;

Support site and workplace safety and security;

Liaise with marketing staff to promote programs and events; and

Record accurate statistics and produce various reports as requested



The successful candidate will have:



Demonstrated experience developing and delivering a wide range of heritage programs;

Confidence speaking in front of audiences of various sizes

Sound knowledge of school curriculum of BC;

Exceptional customer service skills;

Strong written and oral communication skills;

Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and affiliated groups and community partners;

Knowledge of the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and how they relate to the museum/heritage sector;

Knowledge of best practices for museum/heritage operations.

Qualifications



Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a degree/diploma in a discipline relevant to the specialty from a recognized post secondary institution plus two years progressively responsible experience in area of specialty, including supervision. OR

Equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience

Valid BC Driver's License

Current Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate (or acceptable equivalent)

Consent to disclosure of Criminal Record information

Experience working in a heritage or museum setting is an asset
